Bitstamp Deposit Bug

There is a bug in the Bitstamp system whereby if you receive 2 or more deposits in the same Bitcoin transaction only 1 of the deposits get recorded and the other deposits never appear in your account.

This can easily occur in many situations, for example:

Example A)
You have a number of different Bitstamp deposit addresses.  You make a withdrawal from an online exchange (such as BTC-e) to address A.   Then a few minutes later you decide to make another deposit to Address B.  The two transactions happen to be grouped together into one 'sendmany' from BTC-e to Bitstamp.

Both amounts will arrive at Bitstamps wallet, however the second payment will never appear in your account.

Example B)
Two different people who happen to use the same online wallet system (do not know each other).  They both make transfers to your Bitstamp account.
If the payments get group into the same 'sendmany' transaction you will only receive one of the the payments.

Example C (untested the most serious case):
*I have not tested this example but following the above logic this could happen.
Two different people who don't know eachother both using BTC-e.  Both make a transfer from their BTC-e to their own Bitstamp accounts.  The sends get put into the same Bitcoin transaction.  Only one person gets a deposit.

Bitstamp have been informed of this bug but seem unwilling to fix it.  Although they will correct missing individual deposits if discovered.

I urge Bitstamp to fix issue bug immediately. Sendmany is a part of the way bitcoin works and should not result in loses to the user.

If you receive a lot of deposits to your Bitstamp account it can be easy not to notice a missing deposit; I'd suggest all users export their deposit history and check that all deposits have been accounted for.

I've experience the same problem a few weeks ago, and a friend is experiencing this right now (his missing deposit still not credited to his account).

The way Bitstamp handled the issue for me was to first ask me not to do such transactions; then they credited my account with missing bitcoins (that they had already received) after a week or so. They also never admitted it was their fault or apologized. I was quite disappointed with their response and actions.

First of all, that is unrelated to OP's post.

Second of all, we know.

Lastly, it was just one of the operational wallets that was compromised. Their cold storage is fine. Just don't make any deposits until it's all sorted out.
