So, recently I have been very interested in bitcoin, I've done tons of research on what they are, how they work and how to mine them. Recently, I decided it would be fun to start mining them, but despite all the research I have done, I have found nothing on what hardware is recommended to start mining with. So, what would you recommend I start mining with? I don't want anything crazy just yet, just something that will produce enough bitcoin to get me another/upgrade but not take forever. Also, I would appreciate if you would tell me the income per day, but if you don't know it I am perfectly capable of doing it myself. Thanks c:

It really depends on multiple things. One of the biggest factors I would ask what is your electricity price?
With this we can tell you if old used gear or new is best for you. If very very cheap old gear. If normalish then new. And if to high nothing.
Also what country do you live in does it have a vat?

with free electricity go with s5, 5 months roi 0.01 per day
without free electricity roi will rise drastically, it could take up to one year
you can try cloud mining(only bit-x is good now), it's basically the same but at least you don't need to bother about electricity and everything else that isn't the pure hashing/earning

Your power cost is key.
The need for a quiet miner?
Your price point ? will you spend 100usd or 1000usd or ?
Do you have a quality psu on hand?
An s-3 = 100 usd and a psu for it maybe 50 usd.

I would not recommend going after home mining, that train has passed.
If I were you I would go cloud or try some PoS coins. Staking might be big in the future.

Without free electricity there is no point mining unless you want to support the network. It is cheaper to buy the BitCoins especially at current prices. Cloudmining is not at all recommeneded. Ther are either ponzis, or wont give you RoI.

If you want experience I would suggest you buy a Antminer S3 they are cheap now and decent enough efficiency and are quiet.
They are also built like a tank with the metal case. Price keeps lowering slowly. I think you will need to underclock it for it to be considered "quiet". There are much more efficient miners aswell at this point.

At the op are you gone? did you decide? what is happening? I sometimes think ½ of new members like this one are old members just trying to pad the forum. So op if you are really new and want to mine please post back with your decision.

Why is everybody still trying to learn mining with Bitcoin?
New miners for bitcoin are: * not needed * not gaining anything * not learning much
With little extra research you can find a way to mine altcoins, sell for bitcoin and get ROI (profit). I find this a much better approach.

Ther are either ponzis, or wont give you RoI. in theory cloud are better than regular mining , for average miners who pay for electricity, because at least there is no other commissions(well, there are maintenance fees, but they are very small) besides the amount you will spend for your power Why is everybody still trying to learn mining with Bitcoin?

because it's fun.. i myself , sometimes I would go back to mine , although I know it is not profitable

Mining for bitcoin is: Fun Educational A skill that maybe pay off in the future Teaches more understanding of the Bitcoin Network Yes, and what is more fun and educational? To mine bitcoin (and after weeks understand that you will never get to withdraw from the pool because the amount is far too small) or to mine an altcoin where you get real units which can get into your own wallet? Especially as 80% of the altcoins are (cheap) bitcoin clones? This way he may learn - much faster than with bitcoin - how the mining works, how the wallet works, learn about the halving ... You also forgot the point where OP asked about ROI. Which with current bitcoin price, electricity price, .. may .. take a lot. And learning about bitcoin's blockchain is much easier if you just buy 5$ worth of bitcoin to play around, way under the price of any bitcoin mining equipment.

All of you're points are true, altcoin mining will teach more but maybe the only thing missed out is experience with the Antminers but yeah you're right.
I cannot argue with that Yes, mining with external equipment is another experience (which I'd also like to have, but for me it's not worth it). As far as I've read, in some cases it's just a driver you install and not much more. Still, you have a point there, you are right.

So, if you recommend starting with altcoin mining, do I use the same hardware for bitcoins? Also, I get $0.10267 per kWh. Sorry for not replying here for a while I've been busy and sick

Sorry for not replying here for a while I've been busy and sick I highly recommend NOT starting with altcoin mining. Altcoin mining has become a hard game, espically if you mean Scrypt mining. For starting I recommend going with BTC mining, it's just the most simple. And best in my opinion of having a chance of ROI. A lot depends on your electricity cost. But i suggest looking at an asic for BTC mining, and this depends on your budget as far as what you get.

So, if you recommend starting with altcoin mining, do I use the same hardware for bitcoins? Also, I get $0.10267 per kWh. Sorry for not replying here for a while I've been busy and sick I recommend to stay away of the algorithms that can be done by ASIC (Bitcoin/SHA256, Litecoin/Scrypt) and the ones susceptible to be done by FPGA (X11). There are plenty of algos to play with: X13, X15, Nist5, CN, M7M... Do some deeper research on the power usage vs gains. A good GPU (or more!) should be the answer for you (but that may rule out CN because it's too power hungry on GPU). Research more on AMD and NVIDIA cards / software forums (one I know of is this one, but please don't get me wrong, I don't know if AMD is better or NVIDIA). Research on profit calculators. People will not do your job.

s3+! good price, ok speed, good decibels, almost ok wattage...
start mining btc, after that lease your miner to others who want to rent. next step would be altcoins but not worht without a lot of hardware altcoins it's too much time invested with little income, unless you have more than say 10th/s
good luck!
