Hi I want to get into bitcoin for fun not for profit and I want to get an asic for $50. I was looking into butterfly labs 10 gh/s at the price of $50. Is this good for $50 or is there another miner that can mine faster for the same price?

I've seen used antminer S1s 180GH for that price, so not a good deal.

Edit: that is without PSU price, since a good size psu can run 3.

Hi rpiswag

You need to understand that you will not become rich by mining.

The time for rich miners is way behind us. However if you still want to mine to learn Bitcoin and get involve I do understand.

The price for gh is right now around 0,5 $ / gh maximum.

Some simple rule about buying miner.

1- Do not buy from ebay except you really know price of all the miners

2- Do not buy from amazon. (too expensive)

3- Check on the forum. Read. You will learn.

Some nice miners actually for home miners(19-01-2015)

Bitmain S5

Spondoolie SP20

Bitmain S3

If it is only for fun you can start with some small usb miners.
Way more expensive (ratio $/gh) but cost less to start.

Good luck and welcome aboard!

Do not touch ButterFly Labs aka Josh Zerlan with a 10 ft pole. You'll never get your order delivered... at least as long as your ordered miner is profitable.
