I must admit, this was a pretty smart move by Facebook.  I certainly will utilize this messenger feature (to pay people who don't use bitcoin of course).

But I wonder, will this move familiarize people with digital mobile payments and make them feel comfortable.   Then once mobile payments take off, people will realize that bitcoin is a better money.

why not use changetip or similar things to pay people in bitcoin even if they don't have a bitcoin address?

But other than that, I agree, facebook messenger will make people more accustomed to digital money, and make the step to bitcoin smaller.

I don't know what's all the fuss is about. I don't use facebook, so how would you (OP) send me money? And what about the person who don't have a debit card?

Quote
To use it, Facebook users first will have to link a Visa or MasterCard debit card to their account profile and create a PIN. (iOS users can also use the fingerprint reader on newer iPhones and iPads as a security measure.) To send money over Messenger, users will tap on the $ icon on the screen and enter the amount they want to send. Facebook says the capability will be rolled out “over the coming months in the US.”

Did you read some articles about it? Then you should maybe also have noticed that it takes around 2-3 days in order to confirm and they will be using credit cards to meet this goal.
Yep on the one side it's good that i will get people more attracted to digital payments and esp. mobile payments but are you sure these lazy persons will then look for other alternative?
I hope that they will and that they will find bitcoin, but how big chance is there for real?

The only online casino on which i won something. I made 17mBTC from 1mBTC in like 15 minutes.  This is not paid AD!

From all of the reports uI have read, Facebook are only dealing with fiat money payment at the moment! There is no plan yet to embed with cryptocurrency yet! Probably it is still far way to go! Not too excited early!

As usual, many are overexcited and jump the gun. This news is fine for facebook users, but has little or no impact at all for Bitcoin, unless proven otherwise.

well, people like to think it will be a major development for bitcoin because they like to see the price go up.
mostly for personal benefit. i personally can't see it being an addition for bitcoin.

I don't get what's the difference between this or just PayPal? Many people use banking apps already to send money to friends and family or just buy stuff so unless Facebook directly integrates bitcoin I don't think this has any relevance at all.

solid feature offered by facebook. Imo its negative for bitcoin in any time frame, unless facebook is planning on implement btc for the rails in the future.
