Synereo and Factom DApps Launch Initial Coin Offerings

http://www.newsbtc.com/2015/03/19/synereo-factom-icos/

A lot of hype sorrounded this app.

I think it was 3 months ago when I read an article about this who will maybe replace facebook as the hottest social networking site right now.

This appears useful only if you want to connect to a handful of other high functioning nerds. It needs to be easier to use than FaceBook if it is going to go anywhere.

Decentralized social media network seems like a good idea! But it won't be popular as Facebook in the near future until Bitcoin is adopted by the masses and the crypto concepts are accepted.

I don't think your assumption will come true in the near term. Facebook still has the largest user base among all of its competitors listed here http://www.ebizmba.com/articles/social-networking-websites!

Replacing Facebook is a monumental task at this point. People have accounts going back for years and years with connections to loved ones and cherished memories. Anyone who is attempting to create a social network would be better off targeting a niche. Facebook status is out of reach.

Decentralized social media network seems like a good idea! But it won't be popular as Facebook in the near future until Bitcoin is adopted by the masses and the crypto concepts are accepted.

Very true Diaspora was touted as a decentralized Facebook alternative years ago but just couldn't (still can't?) attract many users. Maybe being coupled with cryptocurrencies will change that, but I think the sad truth is the majority of people are more than happy with their Facebook.

Diaspora is a lively online community by now, mostly populated by nerds, free software enthusiasts, artists and activists.

Re OP: It sounds quite like what Storj and MaidSafe are also trying to achieve.

Once one of the new peer-to-peer end-to-end encrypted networks is online and popular, a social network written on top of it can very well replace facebook, because it will be easier to use, as the synergy effects with other features will be immense. Finally all the ideas and concepts that the inventor of hypertext, Ted Nelson, laid out already in the 1960s will be available. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Xanadu -- (He calls today's web a parody of an hypertext implementation.)

The project was just to make a few quid on the backs of those who fell for the hype it will nowhere near take over facebook withing that time, nothing like that is competing with facebook we just need to take a look at the user base of facebook to know that.

A lot of people who use it know that the information they share on there doesn’t even belong to them, you know pictures of there kids their holidays none of it belongs to them, do they care? LOL.

These people are stuck in their ways and that is not going to change they are basically a billion addicts which is a shame.
