You cant mine with your computer. This was possible 3 years ago, you are too late. You need to invest money to make money.

Do the math but GPU/CPU mining normally costs more then you will make.

You can turn down threads or intensity depending on what you are using to mine.  Either way it is not going to be worth it.

If you wan't to mine BTC look in the hardware board.  You will find asics that you will need if you want to mine BTC.

Most at this point have a pretty straightforward gui, that is easy to enter pool information.

Whatever you decide avoid cloud mining at all costs. You can find some cheaper "fun" miners on Amazon such as the U3 for low prices and should not slow your pc down at all.

You might want to provide a bit more information than this.  If you're trying to mine BTC using the CPU or GPU of your computer, save yourself the headache and stop.  You're about 3 years too late to the party.  You'll need to purchase dedicated mining hardware, running on ASICs.

What miner are you trying to setup?  There are quite a few good threads on virtually every piece of hardware out there.  Dogie puts up some tutorials that are pretty easy to follow: http://www.dogiecoin.com

As I posted right above your reply... you need to provide us quite a bit more information.  What are you trying to mine?  How are you trying to mine it?  What hardware are you using?  What software are you trying to configure?

I would suggest getting a Asic myself.  Some/most are able to operate without your PC running at this point.

You can set it up and forget it.

If you have a low end computer, staking / Darkcoin masternode is the way to go.

Otherwise, you may CPU mine Magi.

I don't agree with this.  BTC is most stable coin to mine.  What coin are you talking about?

Most of the good altcoins are scrypt, which gear is getting old and money made is getting little.

There are not many coins that can be mined with out mining hardware and those ones are still not very profitable with just your average computer. It is just better to buy and hold rather than mine if you want to have bitcoin because if you buy your profit is zero but if you mine you lose money.
