This is a great way to get more publicity for Bitcoin. We had a lot of negative publicity recently, and some positive news will do a lot of wonders. WoodCollector deserves a lot of applause.
BTW... what will happen if no one is able to find out the treasure? Should we add the BTC5,000 to the list of "lost coins"?

If we truly know that this is the case, then yes. There's no way to know that 100% for certain, though. The finder(s - if all holders of the 10 coins are indeed required) could collude to keep everything secret. Could try to find the treasure addresses with decent certainty - if something gets spent from them, assume that the treasure was found and declare the remainder as not being lost, as well.

Be wary of anything involving WoodCollector, he doesn't have the best reputation on Bitcointalk, small news sites like these tend to post up articles to get exposure without necessarily checking out their sources.

Good God reading his trust comments is the 2nd longest read I have ever done here, beside TradeFortress of course. I think "doesn't have the best reputation on bitcointalk" is a bit of an understatement. If such hidden treasures were actually out there somewhere then this would be a fun way to promote bitcoin however.

I'm just saying I haven't really weighed in on either end of the argument because I didn't know the whole story and didn't see any of it happen, he did act like a total prick though when he was confronted and that's usually a sign of a scammer, they're always the most indignant.

I have found that to be nearly 100% true. Many will start hurling legal threats as well. While I am more than willing to give people a second chance or benefit of the doubt, doing one's own research before making any business deal will save a lot of grief and misunderstandings down the road.

Uggh, why post this crap. Just another scam by him. Everything WoodCollector says is either fantasy, bullshit or lies. This is just his pathetic fantasy attempt to try flog his remaining crapcoins to idiots. Luckily most people on this forum aren't as stupid as he is and don't suffer fools or scammers.

Yeah, to anyone following the situation you can see his stories dont add up. He claims to have posted "proof" he could carve these intricate designs, but posts a video of him VERY roughly carving around a BTC, and taking over an hour to do so. At that rate he would be working on a single one of his "designs" (which were also stolen designs from the internet) for months. So in the case of WoodCollector... DEAL WITH CAUTION!

I am surprised to see coinspeaker even wrote about this. They might have got a deal from WoodCollector. CoinSpeaker is the number one news source written especially for professionals dealing with bitcoin and other virtual ...
Does this even belong here? [1] It should probably(obviously IMHO) in Off-Topic or Service Discussion but there is already one, so it should be better to move this to Archival. [1] “Notable press hits”

I doubt it. Some of these crappy bitcoin newsites will just post anything for hits. It's not the first time they've got news articles from this forum without fact checking.

But in his case I think he's more a mix of a BS artist as much as a scam artist. Scammers usually just run and hide when called out, he's actually got the nerve to stay here and keep pushing his "carvings". I would stay away from him.

In my personal opinion he doesn't own 5k bitcoin, and he didn't give any proof and an ultimate thing: this is not a news related with bitcoin technology (OP you should move the thread in another section). PS: WoodCollector, we are waiting some proofs .

All that ever comes out of his mouth is bulshit. Even when he's caught red-handed and his alts are busted he still maintains innocence whilst behaving in exactly the same way woodcollector does every time. He's delusional or thinks people here are idiots. PS: WoodCollector, we are waiting some proofs . He couldn't even provide any proof of his carving skills or anything else relating to the whole fiasco for that matter so he's not going to provide proof of these mythical btc.

Yeah he's just trying to get people to buy the last of his stock. And it even looks like some of the ones he "sold" were just to his own sockpuppet accounts, which are now trying to ask a premium for these coins cause they contain part of the puzzle. Anyone with half a brain can see though that he doesn't have $1 million+ of btc that he is goign to give away. This only reinforces the fact that he is a liar, scammer, and not an actual skilled craftsman.

Considering the official thread has gone a lovely shade of shite™, for those even remotely interested in this stuff, looking at the blockchain side of things: the customer sent payment to WC for an art piece and the payment got transfered to an address with a large balance that was dispensing 5BTC each to a bunch of addresses that started with 1Wood or 1Tree [citation needed] In the time that WoodCollector was active on these forums under that name - which presumably would include that time when a person supposedly found a thing with stuff - there were 20 addresses starting with a 1Wood vanity dealing with transactions of any value. 3 of those were mentioned on these forums. There was also a single 1Tree, two 1tree, none of which were referenced. There was a single 1Trees mentioned once but it has zero inputs. The most any of the ones mentioned received was about BTC11. Some of that received amount is also deceiving as funds go from one address to another, and right back. The same happens with the lathe fund. In that same period there were about 2850 transactions involving exactly BTC5 that was unspent, involving about 2400 address. However only about 2150 addresses had only a single transaction in that period. Culling multi-sig and others, and filtering to only those with a current (as of some minutes ago) balance of BTC5, leaves about 1360 addresses. The distribution of those addresses over blocks in which they received their transaction looks like this: If somebody noticed any addresses getting funded with BTC5 each, they must have had a good bit of time on their hands to link them together over such a wide spread, as there's no discernible spike.
Note: This doesn't necessarily invalidate OP's claims. At best it invalidates the claims regarding many vanity addresses and BTC5 transactions related to those addresses and / or a particular time frame.
