Is the ecoining pool still up?  Chrome won't let me log onto it because of something that expired.

Well, just check back one page here.  I asked two good questions for the health of the coin and not one response.

Sorry, we tried contacting the pool operator for you back when you posted this, but we did not get a response. We will try contacting again. The pool seems to be up and running though. In the meantime, can you confirm whether login is still not working? Have you tried any other browser to see if that helps? I will report back to let you know if we were able to get a response from the pool runner.

Also, I’m not sure if you associated health of the network with a lack of response or mining not working. Peercoin is secured through proof of stake only, so mining can’t effect the health of the network. Also as for lack of response, I explained above that we were not able to get a response from the pool operator. I should have responded here to let you know though, so I apologize for that. The team has been very busy lately getting the v0.6 release ready, so it unfortunately slipped my mind.
Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

I did just try again with two browsers (as I did the first time) and getting this error:

Netscape:
Your connection is not secure
The owner of ecoining.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website.

The advanced tab in Chrome shows:

ecoining.com normally uses encryption to protect your information. When Google Chrome tried to connect to ecoining.com this time, the website sent back unusual and incorrect credentials. This may happen when an attacker is trying to pretend to be ecoining.com, or a Wi-Fi sign-in screen has interrupted the connection. Your information is still secure because Google Chrome stopped the connection before any data was exchanged.

You cannot visit ecoining.com right now because the website uses HSTS. Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will probably work later.

Thanks for the additional info.  I was just commenting because I've mined Peercoin before but don't like mining some coins unless I can log into their website.  I am currently mining DEM without logging in but they sent out frequent payments.  ecoining I believe was a longer buildup before payment.

Do I know if peercoin going back too 10 dollars or higher I don't what I feel quite confident about is that a ratio of 4800'peercoins to the bitcoin is not justified too me 300'too 500 peercoins to the bitcoin is realistic target peercoin has many features that are superior too bitcoin and doesn't have the scaling issue bitcoin does nor the huge energy consumption

hrobeersPeercoin Protocol Developer2h
Yesterday we tagged the new v0.6.0 release on Github:

github.com3

peercoin/peercoin

peercoin - Peercoin Official Development Tree
This release uses the leveldb database ported from bitcoin and therefore requires a full blockchain redownload.
At the time of writing, the team is working on the packages for windows, linux and OSX. More elaborate upgrade instructions will be released together with the packages.
Early adopters can already start running the v0.6.0 source code on mainnet.

This version includes a protocol soft fork that activates when 90% of the PoS blocks signal the fork.
After the soft fork activated, v0.5 nodes will still follow the chain (will not fork off) but won't be able to produce valid blocks anymore.
The fork is prevented to activate before Tue 12 Dec 03:40:00 UTC 2017, which should provide enough time for mining pools and exchanges to update without risking to be in the last 10% group.

v0.6 allows to opt-out of checkpoints, the protocol is ready to function without them. However the code is still in the client as a ultimate lifeboat in turbulent times.

Changelog:
- Rebase to bitcoin v0.8 codebase (leveldb backend)
- 90% supermajority softfork including:
    - BIP34: block height in coinbase
    - OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY
- Port of peerunity features into reference client
Stay tuned for more updates.

One reason why I am concerned about the pools is that according to Coinwarz, Peercoin is the most profitable coin to mine.   Is that why it's so hard to post the working pools to this thread?  lol

Edit:

I did just try out ecoining with my miner and it is dead.

I found an old list:

https://peercoin.ecoining.com
https://peercoin.d7.lt
http://give-me-coins.com/peercoin-pool
https://www.multipool.us
http://mining.securepayment.cc/pools/ppcoin/

Another update: one miner wasn't connecting but is working fine and moved to the next pool in the last, while another miner actually connected to ecoining.  But if I don't have automatic payouts checked and I can't log in, the coins will be stuck.  Found an old email from support so going to find out what's up.

Paramind22, the pool operator has still not responded to me. I tried forum, email and Twitter and nothing. I’m not sure what is up.

Also to everyone, once Windows and Linux builds are available we will provide instructions for upgrading.

Peerunity support is ending with the release of v0.6 and all its features have been moved over to the main reference client. Keep watching this thread and we’ll let you know more soon.

Hey guys. Sorry if there is any confusion. We are currently waiting on Sunny King to produce gitian builds for Windows and Linux. We're not sure when he will have the time to do this, but hopefully it will be soon. Consider this early access for those who know how to compile the source code. As soon as we have the builds though, we'll let everyone know so they can download and install.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

git clone https://github.com/peercoin/peercoin

Hey guys, just a quick update. We had run into an issue producing gitian builds last week when everything was supposed to go live. The issue I believe has been solved now, so hopefully we shouldn’t be too much longer. I’m thinking within the next day or two, but we’ll keep you updated here.

starting a slack

Can I ask what is the problem with https://peercoin.chat? Is it the fact that registration is required before you can actually view the content of the chat? This is something that I don’t like as it creates an artificial barrier between our chat community and the outside crypto world, which results in less people seeing our content.

RocketChat is supposedly working on a way to let you view the chat as a guest without requiring registration. There is also our Telegram channel, which lets the Telegram community see what is happening in the peercoin.chat general channel, since they’re both connected by bots.

What is it about Slack that you believe makes it so valuable to hook into? Is it their large existing user base? Do they let you view the chat without requiring registration? Do you have any opinion on Gitter?

improving the website

It has been known for a while now that we need to redesign and improve the website and content. It is just that nobody on the team has had time yet to focus on it. I have been working for the past several months on a design project for the team. It should be done some point soon. At that point I’ll turn my focus to the website. It will get done, but it will take some time still.
