Bitcoin Air would like to announce that the Official Peercoin Snapshot will take place on the 15th of December at 5PM UTC on/around block 403,400.

We recommend holding Peercoin in a wallet with Private Key access as some exchanges may take longer to claim than others!

Value (on February 6, 2014)

1 Bitcoin = US$ 802.19

1 Peercoin = $ 5.14

What are you trying to say with this prices? that Peercoin didn't grew up alongside Bitcoin or something else?
He's just being rational not delusional.

I think this shows very well the evolutionary trend btw BTC v altcoins. While PPC proved to be a great serious project we can't deny that more and more altcoins take away some market cap from PPC and this trend won't stop tomorrow .

For BTC there will be always this deflationary count . Indeed there will be never more than 21 mln BTC.
For the Alts however , this is not the way it is seen really . Every week new coins come up . As soon as you leave the top 10 you can almost start counting the total number of coins mixed in circulations of all the rest ( i know this sound stupid but trust me , this makes sense), because this number will grow . This is what this post proves . I believe a critical point to mention would be that in Feb the market cap of all the coins was also

Total coin cap in Feb 2014 = 10 Bln $ (yesyes, only 10 bln, while now we are at 110 and PPC is at 50 p)

Basically BTC to a certain extend has no competition while the altcoin will only see more and more players. Moreover with the LN on BTC, the need for those experimental projects will drop after few years.
While agreed that PPC will be the future , nothing stops you of building that future with a coin that worth like 5p . Hence this is where it's worth mentioning , what matters is the technology especially for the alts.

Not willing to break anyone s American dream and whoever wants to invest here , you and your money guys, but just do not come back here in a couple of years crying and blaming the devs or the coin as why it did not perform well . Just invest only what you can afford to loose.

@Driendy: Your post definitively makes sense ... Altcoins mainly compete with other altcoins, while Bitcoin is a class of its own - with maybe Ethereum and Ripple as exceptions. These two are the main reasons why Bitcoin's "market cap share" ("dominance") fell from 80% to 50%.

However, I want to make two remarks on PPC's performance:

First, Peercoin had definitively a period where it fell disproportionately against other altcoins. This was in 2015/16, when there was almost no development activity. This has changed in the last 2 years, but it will take some time for PPC to recover - if it will. Maybe in the final phase of the current bear market.

Second, Peercoin is one of the few altcoins without any pre-mine, which in my opinion is a big advantage. First, there is no danger that it gets classified as a "security" and thus owners won't get problems in the US and other countries. Second, and more importantly, pre-mined coins in my opinion won't have a big future, as they have a tendency to stay centralized and thus in the long term offer almost no advantages to totally centralized services (which are technically more efficient, by the way). An example: If Dan Larimer and his team would sell all EOS and retire from one moment to the other, the EOS value would drop extremely very soon - the same way than the MtGoxUSD and the MtGoxBTC became worthless after the exchange closed down. Wink

I am fully with you on this bit as well. I mean Peercoin is by far one of the best projects among other alts and I wouldn't mind to put myself a bit of cash in Ppc especially now, but some go and invest like third of theirs savings in one altcoin and then after it's the fault of the coin , hence invest only what you can afford to loose .
For the potential bit, I would even go further because we don't know the landscape we'll see in 2020. Imagine if some sort of crackdown take place against new ICO or similar coins . In that case only Veteran coins like PPC will appear as save invest place like you mentioned and this an grow the price as well a lot more. We'll see.

Quote
First of all, congratulations to the Peercoin team for getting the v0.7 release into good shape! During the final review process it was discovered that some minor fixes still need to be completed so the planned v0.7 release date and protocol switch date will be adjusted accordingly. Keep an eye on the team’s upcoming announcements.

In 2019 the Peercoin team plans on finishing up development work for v0.8, which will feature Peercoin’s rebase to bitcoin-core 0.16.3. Significant progress has already been made on this work and the completion of coding may be right around the corner. Also, something else we are excited about is the redesign of peercoin.net, which is currently under construction and expected to be released sometime in the new year!

In the last couple years, Proof-of-Stake Consensus has steadily gained popularity over Proof-of-Work Consensus. It is evident that the trend will continue in the coming years due to the efficiency and scalability advantages. Peercoin will continue to showcase the technology advantage and innovations it brings to the crypto world.

Happy New Year to all Peercoin supporters and crypto fans!

Have fun!

Dear Peercoin community. We are pleased to inform you about our project https://peerchats.top/ which logs all important telegram chats related to Peercoin. We believe that Peercoin Chats will be a valuable addition to the Peercoin ecosystem. During the work of the site, we have already received a large number of positive feedback from community members. The project is under active development. The project has its own team of programmers, ready at any time to solve new technical problems and make new improvements.

What is implemented at the moment:
You can read your favorite sites in a convenient form for you through https://peerchats.top/
The site is optimized for work and on mobile devices. There is a search by keyword and date. It is possible to read the chat you want in your native language using Google Translate. The translation is not perfect, but it will allow you to receive the latest news as quickly as possible from the first sources.

In the near future, we plan to add the ability to share a specific telegram post in social networks. On the one hand, this will allow you to share interesting content with your friends and subscribers, and on the other hand, it will positively influence the development of Peercoin ’s popularity in general.

There is a lot of work ahead, we have planned a huge number of interesting and useful improvements. If you have any suggestions for improving our site, please write - we will try to take everything into account and use it in the further development of the site.

If you think that some important chat related to Peercoin is missing on our website, please write and we will add it.

Nice review. That's basically my opinion, too. The BD ratings are very good overall, as they put some focus on decentralization. Good read Wink

I think during the current "crypto winter" we won't see too important changes with respect to Peercoin's price in BTC or USD (maybe a return to late-2018 values once 0.8 is ready), but once interest in cryptocurrencies refloats it's very possible to see a strong recovery.

the new theme looks like fingerpainting and takes up too much screen real estate. is it really necessary
not to allow the window to be resized any smaller or use such giant fonts when there is no obvious way to
user-control the font size.
