I thought that any node can connect another one. And when there is at least 2 nodes available in the network you can start mining and get some coins. Online of hardcoded sync is not mandatory. Or i'm wrong here?

you are correct and the dev did not set any other checkpoints than the genesis block .. so we could start mining now...
