What's the highest hashing speed you've ever seen from one of your connected workers?

Anyone ever seen 500 MH/s?

I'm assuming at the moment the highest single worker would be a watercooled overvolted overclocked 5870?

Or am I totally wrong and everyone is using multiminer to converge all workers into a single external worker thread?  Would this be more efficient?

The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

500Mh/s isn't all that much - i have one 800 Mh/s worker (a dual-5870, the biggest of my four), but i'm a little guy.  i don't know if pool operators can tell whether a connected worker is running more than one GPU.  can they?  or do they just see an undifferentiated stream of getworks, submissions, & etc.?

If you mean a single card, my best is 441Mh/s as measured by 24-hour count of accepted hashes on BTCmine, from a Sapphire HD5870 clocked at 975MHz core, 325MHz memory, aircooled, standard voltage. The Sapphire cards are good in terms of performance for noise level - they have fairly quiet fans and I can tolerate one in the living room.

If you mean a single machine, my best is 1720Mh/s, measured by 24-hour accepted hashes, from 4 XFX HD5870s, all at 960MHz core, 320MHz memory, aircooled, standard voltage. This is my best in terms of performance for capital cost - XFX 5870s cost quite a lot less than Sapphire and give about 97.5% of the performance.

If you mean from a cluster... well, there are people out there who have _big_ clusters that make my 12 5870s look small and pathetic.

I assume it won't be accurate, for instance I run both cards as a single worker, someone may run each gpu as a separate worker, and someone may run whole cluster as a single worker

Your question is silly because a single worker connection does not necessarily equate to a single device.

You'd be better off googling for 5870 overclock records under air and LN2 and extrapolating a hash rate from that if you're wondering what a single device is capable of.

I suggest trying different options and see what works best in your case.  two cards, two workers or a single worker? - IMO, doesn't matter
for mining hardware capabilities there is a great table sheet, which can roughly show approximate MH/s rate for a specific device/OC settings

I use multiminer for each of my mining sites. It allows for all the miners at a location to pool thru it to make one single connection to the pool server or your personal bitcoin server.

Advantages:
  • Uses far less bandwidth, especially with many many systems.
  • Increases mining efficiency by lowering rejected shares. (I get less than 1% on one of my setups with 5Ghashes)
  • Use multiple miners with one worker username (for sites that don't allow you multiple workers for whatever reason)
  • The MMP protocol is more robust and has far less overhead, again more efficiency.

Thank you BackBurn you answered my secondary question perfectly  Smiley

I guess I should have stated the actual reason I was asking the original question about max hashrate from a single thread - I am simply curious if someone has secretly found a hashing method or device faster than is currently known publicly and was keeping it to themselves; if multiminer didn't exist then pool operators would be the first to know (when they see a single worker thread hashing faster than 450 MH/s)
