Hi, we did love btc.to and with its demise, I promised myself to make an improved clone of the service once I came across a decent URL. That time has come. I got offered the myb.tc URL and only a couple of days later, I give you: myb.tc. What's so cool about this? Well, for now, it's just that - a btc.to clone. I did make a DONATION page for you to comfortably donate your BTC to whichever cause you like. If you think there are causes worthy of the bitcoin community's support, let me know. Later next week, you'll be able to request funds via the site, announcement will follow once that feature is done. Anyways - enjoy.

So, what can I do with this shortener? I just enter an address and the site generating QR Code and a link. Then, what is the purpose of that?

So, what can I do with this shortener? I just enter an address and the site generating QR Code and a link. Then, what is the purpose of that?
The purpose (at least that's how we used btc.to back in the day) was to enter your bitcoin address and then only memorize the shortlink. Say, you enter your paper wallet public address (1Fqi5DTDRBLeu7XCi7fZvHMpd35Qs3U8sT) and receive the short url http://myb.tc/LJI. Now, if someone wants to send you bitcoin, you can just tell them to " go to myb.tc/LJI and send the bitcoins". They can then copypaste the address on their desktop pc and enter it into their wallet software. They could also scan the code without you being there and send. You could also pull up the link on your mobile and have your friend scan it with their app when you meet up. Why is this useful? - no need to carry a wallet on your phone to request BTC - no need to copypaste addresses via email - instantly accessible QR code even for remote locations. I've used the hell out of btc.to and I hope others might find this service equally useful.

Would love to be able to customize those last couple characters. I guess, but that's not the purpose of the tool - just remember your three-digit (for now, at least) URL, you'll be set! The hard-wired URLs are for donation purposes (myb.tc/donate).

I said already I really like this. Short URLs are great for sharing. But now you got me wondering... would it be very hard to allow full addresses to be looked up as well? Eg. http://myb.tc/1ocQJhevwiFE2LdRcDqmuGSRyf3wVLZX9 would show the QR for that address. I know that wasn't the original point - just wondering.

Are you using an algorithm for creating the seed behind the domain address? Wondering because my shortened address has three letters.

The letters are totally random and unique. If needed, the system will expanding to 4 letters and 5 and so on

I guess I could see this being useful in the same ways that URL shorteners are (so Youtube, Twitter, etc.)
What this is missing is a Chrome Extension and FireFox Extension (and dare I say it, an IE extension) to make it really easy for people to insert this kind of link. If you're interested in having one designed for any of the browsers (as Chrome as about 50% of the browser market share, it's the one I'd start with if I were you), PM me and we could work something out!

It's pretty nice, one more use of it is you can add it below your avatar, as personal text because that field doesn't allow too many characters and it will look cool. This is my link btw: http://myb.tc/QJTAnd here's testing if the currency convert thing works or not http://myb.tc/QJT/9.99USDEdit: It looks good, if someone wants to test that, go right ahead 'JK' Great work guys, congrats.

some two new functions are available: 1. tap or click on the bar code on both screens (address and money request) and your bitcoin-app should automatically start and use the data to generate a payment 2. on the address screen you are able to enter a money request. (currently USD and EUR - other currencies comming soon) havin fun

Although this looks cool, this has a problem with centralization and has huge risks. You could easily change the bitcoin address of link on your server to your own address anytime. I would recommend a more decentralized solution: - Use a chrome/firefox extension to shortlen/lookup
- Use a decentralized api like onename to store shortened links

Is it designed for people so that they can get all numbers/letters?
