Hi All,

I've just joined the happy OKCash HODL-ers team.
The wallet gave me a heart attack today when I was withdrawing my coins from Bittrex...

I have downloaded the wallet, it took 2 days to sync. Then I have created a new address (I haven't seen any address in it).
Sent my coins to the address, seen the message that there is an incoming transaction... and I have not seen my coins coming in.

Then I have generated another address: PPZodX4DYVw4NEK5ch7fLePBLp1fCeLX3J and now the client after restart shows this address in the upper right corner, with the coins in it. While the block explorer after wallet restart shows my OKCash wallet main address with the coins.

Is this a normal behaviour?

Thanks in advance.

The address at the top right is the lastest address that was generated in the wallet.
And the amount shown in balance is the cumulative of all addresses.

Have you looked at coin control when you checked the addresses balances, or was it the global Balance?

Thanks for the quick response shbour.

I have looked at the block explorer with the generated and used address and the transactionID as well, and seen nothing.
Also the coins were not in the wallet, neither the main page nor the upper right corner was not showing the coins.

What is really interresting is that I have 3 addresses now. I generated the first one (as I have not seen a wallet address there) I gave that a name, and now that named address has a different address and the one named OKWallet has the coins with the address I generated, and named originally such as "first wallet" Smiley

Select this option in the wallet options page:

This will prevent further issues and show your correct balance.

Can anyone tell if if there is any interesting Okcash protocol developments in the pipeline?

I dont actualy know that, but if you look at github https://github.com/okcashpro the devs are activ Smiley

Edit: if you look at github you see that they are working on an electrum client, hopefully for android too.
There's an Android Core wallet up coming. No release date yet as the devs are busy with other things right now, but it's being worked on in parallel

An Android or IOS wallet would be the game changer for Okcash!

We are working towards that goal as well, even so:

While we agree, there are some mobile solutions already, like Coinomi (Android - Okcash integrated) with electrum technology,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coinomi.wallet&hl=en

or even the Discord app, where you have your own personal wallet as soon as you join where you can even stake your Okcash,
without the need of downloading the ok-blockchain, and sending to another person is as easy as doing a .tip @user Amount .
It has apps for Android and IOS, making it possible for you to have your Own OK wallets already on mobile devices,
without frying your battery or drinking your ram like every other wallet does Wink

OK Discord (with your own personal wallet ready for use) :  https://discord.gg/grvpc8c
Discord for android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.discord&hl=en
Discord for IOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/discord-chat-for-gamers/id985746746?mt=8

So, everyone is able to use Okcash on: PC, Linux, Mac, IoT devices (Raspberry All fams, Pine64 All fams, Banana Pro), Android and IoS Mobile devices already.

Full disclosure, not a dev here, so this is from a simple user perspective....

It seems like most coins are not being adopted for payments (if that's the primary use) by the masses because it's simply not easy enough to use. What I imagine would help is having a wallet users could install and send/receive to/from identifiable contacts (instead of wallet addresses). I know there's been decentralized dns attempted by other groups, but I was just curious if anything like that had been considered here at OkCash. Just trying to think of ways to make it easier for people to mass adopt, and that one came to mind. When someone figures out how to make it so simple for everyone, it will be a game changer IMO.

Well in your wallet you can have contacts, once you entered their address just like a phone book with phone numbers, and then you can label the address with the person's name or business name/company.

Also not a lot of people would want their name associated to 1 or more addresses directly on the network, if that's what you meant by contacts and decentralized DNS.

Yes, the contact thing in the wallet is great. It would just be nice to have something similar and super easy to use on our phones.

I totally understand people not wanting to be identified. For example, if anyone could view my PayPal balance by looking up my email address, I wouldn't like it either. But that's not exactly what I meant. I was thinking more of an optional thing, very similar to a decentralized contact list. If you were a business and wanted to accept OKCash, you could have a fixed alias or something.

Just throwing out ideas, that's all. I want OKCash to continue to succeed, so I was trying to think of problems (and solutions, no matter how half baked they sound coming from a non-dev) that most/all payments related coins still suffer from, like mass adoption. Most people still in this space (dev and non-dev alike) are curious tinkerers and want/like to figure things out, but whoever can come up with a way to bring usage to the masses holds a pretty big golden ticket I would think.

Does anyone remember GetGEMZ? Well, it fell flat on its face but I think they got one thing right. Their platform was primarily a mobile message app, but with crypto wallet integration. I think the right approach is the opposite, primarily a very user friendly mobile wallet, where the user can select one of their addresses as their public 'phonebook' address. Secondarily, the app identifies any of their contacts that also have the mobile wallet along with their public addresses, and allows messaging. Mobile first is going to be the strategy for mass adoption, and the app that gets people transacting with their friends, without inputting hex addresses is on to a winner.

I absolutely agree.

Absolutely agreed, making Okcash easier to use to the average user is one of core values in the Okcash vision,
while we continue to work towards this goal, we try and provide different tools for users, as we believe the
final decision should be user based on what system fits/works better for them.

At this moment you can already do this within OK Discord, you get assigned an Okcash and Bitcoin wallet as soon as you join,
from there you just need to deposit some coins and you become able to send any amount of coin you want to another person,
without the need of knowing their OK address, you only need to know the name and sent it to him in a form of tip.

example: .tip @user 100 Okcash

or change the currency to BTC and use the same method.

Thanks OKToshi. I think you and the team have done amazing things so far and I have faith you'll bring us all to even greater heights in the future. I'm just trying to throw out ideas or share my thoughts with the hopes of making it better for all and inspiring conversation of what might be possible.

I would like to add that while Discord may have that functionality, I would not count the app as something likely to be adopted by an every day user. If a user has to learn syntax, even the simplest of syntax, I think a lot of people would find that overwhelming and just move on. I'm embarrassed to say this, but even I found it confusing with all the commands I saw people typing, and I could never find a help menu to explain what they were doing, so I uninstalled. (to be fair, I'm not into chatting, so that had something to do with it too)

What I imagine being adoptable is not .tip @user 100 Okcash, but something as brainless as clicking a button to select an address, typing in an OK amount, clicking a send button, etc. Like, if selecting contacts was as easy as selecting cryptos at ShapeShift, that would be sweet. JMHO. That is all. Smiley

For the first part, it's very easy to ask people how to do the ".help" command to have the command menu. Also there is an old tutorial on YouTube that explains how to use OKBets (and another old bot that we don't have anymore) http://okcashtalk.org/index.php/topic,1973.0.html.

Secondly, wouldn't that be the same as entering an address and store it in your wallet's contacts and then go through it whenever you want to send coins to that other person?
