What is the real risk for you? I guess you would not give any numbers but are 10.000BTC a little, moderate or big part of you overall balance?

As mentioned, I ask that some aspects of my personal privacy be respected. Having said that, yes, it constitutes a larged portion of holdings.

I do think doing any business with anonymous people is downright ridiculous, at least without escrow of some sort. As for Pirate, I've said this a dozen times at least -- He's not anonymous. And the betters? only some of them are. The larger wagers are individuals who are well known.

Practically is. Bitcoin seems to have a very diverse community. With that comes people that don't understand ID means nothing mixed in with experienced scammers and criminals. Unless you ran it through NCIC (w/ matching SSN + preferably more info) and the pictures matched ID doesn't mean much. Even if it's valid through NCIC it could just have been copied. I had an old college friend that looked exactly like me, if I had a fake ID made with his DL number and made a facebook account you guys would send me millions?

I have been tempted to show you guys how little this stuff means the hard way, but my morals got the best of me. But really, if you don't know the guy personally. If you haven't met his family and knows where he sleeps. Then confirmed that with pictures from government sites, you are taking a big risk fully trusting someone based off ID and social networks.

Funny thing is, unless you're colluding with pirate, you've made it harder for him to repay even if he wanted to. There never were 500 000 BTC, so the only way he can get out of it in a way that would let you win is to fear all the real creditors into selling their accounts at a very low price. By letting people hedge you have made that more expensive.

Selling an account at lower price to someone else other than pirate40 doesn't lower the amount he has to pay.

If you believe he is right then why do you claim that he is "not anonymous" in the answer I was entitled to? Having a fake ID is in essence equal to being anonymous, in fact the only point of having a fake ID is to be anonymous. If you believe that doing "any business with anonymous people is downright ridiculous" and all it takes to convince you is a fake facebook profile and some obscure ID i'm really questioning your point. I mean it's basically the same thing?
