Not gonna happen if the dollar collapses. Some people would probably buy and there'd be a substantial rise, but bitcoin would quickly be forgotten as it cannot operate without fiat any time soon (or ever, for that matter)
I think world can live without fiat. It can even live without grain, but much harder. Maybe, 100 years later..  |

I think world can live without fiat. It can even live without grain, but much harder. Maybe, 100 years later.. around the time that bitcoin will work only with fees, at that point it should outclass fiat in every way..if everything will work as expected... |

If they didn't in 2008, why would they "realize" next time? The truth is probably that the current system isn't as "broken" as some here are led to think.
Bitcoin was around in 2008   Im thinking more like 2020, around the halving after next. At the latest. |

This is the speculation forum so lets speculate.
When the next big crash happens like the 2008 crash people will realize how much the current system is broken. They will go to bitcoin. 100 satoshi = 1$ by the year 2018.

Third halving will be @ 2020 (87.5 % all coins will be mined) ;
Forth halving will be @ 2024 (93.75 % all coins will be mined);
Fifth halving will be @ 2028 (96.875 % all coins will be mined);
After forth halving there will ~1.3 million will be left. I think , after 2024 we can see $ 100k+/BTC. About 2025-2030 we can see 100 sat = 1 $

So my $24 in BTC would be worth $10,000 about? That's a pretty good investment if you ask me! Where do you get the idea that the amount of coins mined so far relates with the value of the coins, though? |

We've seen this kind of astronomical rise before, and could very well see it again. But I agree that - at this very moment - it is still quite some water down the river and blocks waiting to be mined. |

Well, if 100 satoshi is ever worth $1, all the satoshi I collected while fooling around with faucets would make me financially comfortable. And a lot of other people as well, providing they haven't sold or spent any. This would be making a lot of undeserving, time-wasting, scum-suckling suckers rich--myself included--and it isn't likely to happen. 'Tis nice to dream, though.
