I just started screwing around with a 7970 rig. I have three of them in a windows 7 pro 64 bit rig.

Specs

Asus p8p67 WS revolution mobo
1 gig ram ddr3 1333
old laptop HD
low wattage sandy bridge cpu 45 watt

1st 7970 in pci slot 1 on mobo
2 7970 with pci x16 extenders
750 watt seasonic gold psu

So any idea why the first cards get 496 mh/s ? - stock gpu clock 925, 775 mem - for burn in
other 2 cards get 550 mh/s at 925/775

Using cgminer 2.7.4 with no tweaks, just letting it run on auto pilot for now.

Thanks for any help.

My 5850s are both on 8x... They hash at the same rate with same settings but one gets 10% more shares completed. I believe this is due to working transitors on the die but not sure. Either way doesn't sound like your problem.

More specs maybe? Whats your affinity on each gpu... etc. Also, are you checking frequencies with gpu-z or msi?

Same or different intensity? Also you running a monitor off 1st card?

monitor on 1st card, but I unplug it once the machine is running and I have windows set to turn off display in 1 minute.

using standard cgminer auto intensity, looks like 6 is what cgminer is using for all three.

also, how do people check into measuring ASIC quality ?

Got the asic quality

77% on one 71% and 63%.

still getting 50 less MH/s on just one card.

Isn't the first card occupied with displaying your Windows Desktop, therfore it hashes less?

I'm getting 0.59MH/s per MHz from a 7970 that's also running the Windows desktop. Optimal yield should be 0.6, and I can get that with intensity 11, but it brings the CPU usage bug on Windows. You mentioned using intensity 6, try 9 instead. That's the max I can go without getting extra CPU usage.

*facepalm* TAKE OFF THE DYNAMIC INTENSITY! If you use dynamic, Then CGminer will only use ONE mining thread on the GPU instead of 1-4 threads (My 7950 runs two mining threads)

I understand that, but they are all on dynamic intensity.

Also, I do set the computer to turn off the monitor after one minute and has speed does not rise.

I have 5 other machines with 5870's, 5970's and 69XX series and this does not occur.

I also use fixed intensity on those machines.

Why would dynamic only affect one gpu ? The other two are also set to dynamic, I did this for my burn in session.

Because even though your Primary (slot 1) GPU isnt plugged into a monitor, It is still being told "You are the desktop" Granted that it's not Displaying/Drawing anything, It still has all that "you are the desktop" information in/on/running through it, I may be wrong, But goahead and plug in a monitor to Any of the other cards, Your not gonna get a desktop. also i have a duo 6870 setup, Slot 1 card hash 3mh/s slower than card 2, Except if i leave, for a day or so, And comeback, They are both at equal average speeds.

I have an extremely heavy assumption that dynamic is the issue, Just (for testings sake) set all the GPU's to intensity 9-10 (NOT ANY HIGHER) or you might get alot of cpu usage, wich can result in Crappy hashrates, I mean heck, Your dynamic may be bouncing into intensity 13, Pegging your CPU to 100%, Killing the hashrates, Reducing the dynamic, dropping CPU, and mh/s. Only to then "re dynamically" go back to intensity >10 because YOU HAVE NO DESKTOP, OR ANY (practical) USAGE ON THE CARD! Crapping everything, REPEAT

Also, you could get Alot more mh/s
with GPU 1200MHz, Memory 600MHz; -v 1 -w 256 Diablo Kernal, You should hit 710mh/s
But obviously not everyone has a 7970 that can hit 1200core

With CGMiner defaults (-k poclbm, -v 1, -w 64), I get 706 @ 1200/325

Where it is possible to change these settings in cgminer? In guiminer i had optimized my 5870's, now running 7970 @ 1180/160 getting average 680 Mh/s, could i squeez more?

You can either add these options into the command line, or you can add them into the config file. Either works.

I'm at work right now, so I can't see what my exact options are. From memory, it looks something like this:

C:\cgminer\cgminer.exe -o http://YOURPOOL:8332 -O YOURUSERNAME:YOURPASSWORD --temp-target 60 --auto-gpu --gpu-engine 800-1200 --gpu-fan 90 -k poclbm -v 1 -w 64 -I 9

In reality, I have all this written to a config file (with multiple pools), but this is how you would type it out.

Thanks. will try it later

Tryed. First impressions: have no big difference from cgminer default setting, nor with W64, not with w256, who is more suitable for 7970 ?

CGMiner default settings ARE -k poclbm -v 1 -w 64. I first started off with -k diakgcn -v 2 -w 256, but seemed to be more memory dependent, and didn't like my lower memory clocks.
