There is no world-wide money transfer system that settles transaction faster than those 4 hours. Well, Bitcoin and its clones are most of the time much faster. If you are willing to accept the risc of chargebacks, you should accept 0-confirmation transactions.

I send euro from my bank to the person with the same bank in 1-2 hours.

You are not sending euro, just some numbers changed in your bank, similar to doing an internal transaction in one of the bitcoin exchanges, some numbers changed in your bank's database, does not involve any real money transfer

Sorry but confirmation is what makes things rock solid.
In fact 2 confirmations minimum IMO.

Anyone working with 0 confirmations is prone to get ripped off.

Please stop spreading misinformation. 0 confirmations are ok for most things

Please keep your thoughts to your self.

0 confirmations IS NOT OK UNLESS your buying a pack of chewing gum and the shop owner don't mind loosing $1.
When you do REAL trades confirmations are crucial to the success of your trade.

Please go read some more.
Thank you  Smiley

Why would it be ok for a dollar transaction but not larger ones? If it's a problem then it's a problem. Once the payment has been sent and the seller gets acknowledgement of that then it's as good as confirmed, but shops will use payment processors most likely. You can do a 'chargeback' or the card could be stolen and payment processors protect against this.

Personally I think that ALL transactions should have atleast 1 confirmation, but when you work in a place selling, I don't know, chewing gum, you wouldn't worry about it that much.
BUT, if you sold house appliances or video games, you would definetly wait for the confirmations.

Or, like anywhere else, you use a third party that handles that trust for you.

Right, like Coinbase and Cirlce right?

What about my private keys?

Oh wait, they don't exist with a third party service....

Most merchants use BitPay. BitPay handles transactions just like Visa handles transactions.

It also handles my privates keys - which I have no access to - right?

BitPay does not hold the private keys of the buyer. It converts bitcoins to fiat for the merchant.

Thanks for the info, but I never mentioned BitPay  Wink
That being said, are they using multisig?

I'm done helping you promote your signature campaign.

No, you just have nothing to say.
My signature campaign has nothing to do with it.

And FYI my signature campaign has already been covered about a week or 2 ago.

This has nothing to do with signature campaigns.

What a shame, I thought legendary members were wise and helpful.
Guess I was wrong....

It happens sometimes, no body can control this. We know it's annoying but there isn't any solution to this. I never experienced this much delay. Can you show the block which took 4 hours?

https://blockchain.info/tx/ed451475658e223faa12782abdd73eed08e0ed7f1a34799076cefa0104662aa3

WE are over 4 hours now. WHat an epic fucking joke this is. Try explaining this to a laymen and they'll laugh you right out of the room.

One of the input of this transaction is still unconfirmed, that's the reason this one can not be done before that input is confirmed, what could be the cause of that unconfirmed input? A double spending?

Zero fee. Those don't really work any more, or if they do it can take a very long time.

It's this one, it seems the transaction fee is less than recommended

This is the second time in 2 days I've moved money and it's taken over 4 FUCKNG HOURS. .0001 BTC Fee. Pardon my french BUT WHAT IN THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THE GODDAMN NETWORK that this is occuring? A fucking 300 baud modem could move data faster than this.

This is total unacccepptable epic bullshit on every level. You think bitcoin will go to 0 cents in the future? Well keep up this bullshit.
I've been testing something a while now sending 5460 satoshis frequently to/from the same address using 0.000015 as a fee and I usually got in in the FIRST block.

Maybe your wallet is not in synch and/or the transaction was never sent?

Sending from the same address gives it more "priority".

First seastead company actually selling sea homes: Ocean Builders https://ocean.builders  Of course we accept bitcoin.

you can deal with 0 confs even if you sell stuff ( like a jeans ) for 100 or 200 USD - no problem. check if it is on the blockchain and that is has the minimum fee and you are fine. there is a bigger chance that the customer just ran out of your store and steal your jeans than anything else.  Undecided

The quick answer is that innovation stopped when Satoshi ran off with his 1 million bitcoin stash.

Satoshi brought us Bitcoin, that is innovation enough isn't it? It's an open source project which means we ALL are somehow responsible for innovation in and around Bitcoin.

Regarding OP : Just check the priority of your coins and add the right fee. In some cases 0.0001BTC fee is not enough. After that you can only wait.

If you are willing to accept the risk of chargebacks, you should accept 0-confirmation transactions.
This, and doubly so if are in person and watching the other party send the transaction.

Remember Aaron Swartz, a 26 year old computer scientist who died defending the free flow of information.

It was already explained to you. Someone a few transactions back feeding into yours (maybe it was you, maybe not) sent with no fee. If it wasn't you, you should complain to whoever sent you the coins you are trying to spend.

Yes, something is seriously fucked up, and it is your fault.

If you wrote the program that sent the transaction, then you have a bug in your program.

If you used a wallet program to send the transaction, then you chose a poorly written wallet that has a bug in it.

Specifically:

At 2015-04-27 04:42:44 UTC you received a transaction for 2.142 BTC at address 1KfncRtWe8ycboDe1BAw4UyFBrgpZRHwpN with transaction ID b5f1a50f10ef314e4e8c6b92e15f1972c1757f78665ab3f3fe7d705b67370257

Whomever sent you that transaction failed to pay a transaction fee at all.  Therefore, their transaction has not yet confirmed.  That part isn't your fault, but you should contact the person that sent you that transaction and tell them that they screwed up.

Next comes the part that is your fault.

The transaction that you are complaining about spent that unconfirmed 2.142 BTC.  You should not be spending unconfirmed bitcoins.  There is a very real chance that the 2.142 BTC that you received will never confirm, especially if someone is attempting to create a competing transaction that uses the same inputs.

All you can do now is wait and hope that the 2.142 BTC confirms.

I just got a "conflicted" error on this transaction on bitcoint-qt, so I think it's more than that. I downloaded the new bitcoin-qt 10.1 and did a -rescan on a backup wallet. Will continue to wait a little longer to see what in the fuck is wrong with this situation and hope it gets resolved.

The only way you could create this transaction with Bitcoin-Qt 10.1 is if you chose to change the default settings.

The default settings won't allow the wallet to create a transaction that spends unconfirmed outputs.  If you changed that setting without understanding the risks associated, then you can only blame yourself.
