Would you like to see bitcoin become permanent? Separate from usd speculation? I believe donating bitcoins to and convincing the open-e-farm team to accept bitcoins for their global village construction set will be a monumental step  in solidifying bitcoin as a legitimate currency. I also believe doing so for those developing open source hardware. Why? Because the means of production to sustain human life and the bitcoin system will be open source and valued in its own denomination. This is revolutionary.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

I was not familiar with open-e-farm. I see there is some information out there to be found, but what are your personal experiences and thoughts about the project? Can you give us some more info on possible bitcoin/open-e-farm synergies?

That's Factor-e-Farm at http://opensourceecology.org/ I believe.

They are a group, currently backed by about 100*10$/month of donations, developing the means to living off of local resources (sustainably) with minimal work needed, with a view to ending artificial scarcity. They advocate a truly free distributed (p2p) economy outside the bounds of patents and copyright law.

So far they have developed open hardware for building housing and machines that make machines.

I personally believe (and put my money where my mouth is Wink, that their development effort will start something great. They are already filling orders for machines on the order of several thousand dollars, more machine shops should follow soon.

I think what these guys are doing is amazing.

I think bitcoin donations will help in bridging some of their financial issues and also selling their technology in bitcoins or some combination of bitcoins and dollars could draw a lot of interest and move things along. Its dencentralized industry. It needs a dencentralized currency.

Another synergy between the two I see is an open data center so to speak. An off the grid data center that could decouple bitcoin from the dollar and have it stand on its own for the open source community.

I recently discovered opensourceecology and I find that project really awesome. I subbed a couple videos in italian, they are really impressive, I recommend you to take a look at least to the first one:

Marcin Jakubowski: Projects for open source civilization / Progetti per macchinari open source

Open Source Ecology: 4 anni di progetti in 4 minuti

An open source civilization should really make use of bitcoins ;-)

Lets do it and get them some coins.

Would anyone be interested in a project to start incorporating and connecting these two projects together? I have already contacted them about working on accepting bitcoins for donations. Still waiting to hear back.

For the bitcoin millionares here: Instead of buying a house, what about buying a machine to make a house?

Factor-e-Farm produces earth brick (CEB) making machines Wink Add some cheap piece of land and a summers worth of work to make a house.

I'm sure they would accept a deal for payment with bitcoins...

Exactly.

I have actually been in contact with their webmaster. They are working on setting up a way to accept bitcoin donations and are exploring the possibility of selling their construction kit for bitcoins. Could you imagine?

The Global Village Construction Kit is an amazing idea along with Reprap.

That's great news anderxander!

Did you correspond with anyone at the project to make that happen?

If so, share your experience, maybe it will be helpful for understanding how to approach other organizations.

Yes I did correspond with them. I started a thread on their forum about Bitcoins and someone put me in contact with their web person. He took very well to the idea and he and I discussed at length about how to get bitcoin donations to them. We also discussed the possibility of having the Factor E Farm accept bitcoins for their open source, decentralized manufacturing technologies. We need to show a lot of support for the project. It could open a lot of doors if they accept bitcoin for manufacturing equip.!!
