2016 doesn't seem so random to me. There are exactly 20160 minutes in 2 weeks.Very good point!
This exactly says the 2016 is related to the 10 minutes block time an and the difficulty re-target of 2 weeks.
A serious answer why this number is 2016 seems not possible without noticing this other both values
