last 600 block to halving

The Grantcoin Foundation has contracted with One Million Gateways, a software development company focused on the Ripple ecosystem, to create an automated bridge for Grantcoin payments, deposits and withdrawals between Ripple wallets and the Grantcoin blockchain, similar to BTC2Ripple. This is expected to be ready in late June.

Im already three time manual Withdraw my GRT from Rippletrade to External wallet , I get a good service from support .  Wink

I can't wait about Grantcoin-Ripple bridge , what is really happening in late June ?
Now June 29 , may be tomorrow you can release Grantcoin-Ripple bridge ?

Note :
- as User Rippletrade , I like When GRT LIVE on rippletrade . XRP it's good market
- if I'm done Download chain Android wallet (This is quite long  Grin) , i can test and give feedback  Wink

Thanks

Developer: How is this coin going to build value so that the grants are useful to recipients?

That's a good question, and thank you for asking it. The simple answer is that all currencies build their value based on people's belief in the ideas and institutions behind the currency. Is it a good way to have a monetary system which benefits people and creates a better economy? Are the people involved, and the organization(s) responsible for managing the currency, ethical, transparent and trustworthy? The more people who answer yes to these questions about a particular currency, the more demand for it will increase and it will gain value. This is called the network effect: the more people believing in something and using something, the more valuable and useful it becomes.

Here's a 3 minute clip from a recent interview in which I talk about what gives money its value: https://youtu.be/HyIW8ToQYCg

Having said that, the Grantcoin Foundation has plans to make Grantcoin more useful as a currency, regardless of how many other people believe in it. For example, we're going to be starting our own e-commerce store, selling a variety of products made by socially/environmentally responsible companies, in which people will be able to pay with Grantcoin.

Thanks for letting the community know. Smiley

We've been consistently processing withdrawals from Ripple Trade with a turnaround time of usually just a few hours or less.

I wish I could tell you the automated bridge was going to be done tomorrow, but unfortunately it's delayed. We're looking into maybe having our own developers build it instead of working with outside devs as we've been doing before. The delays are frustrating, but in the end we might actually save money by just doing it ourselves and getting some input as needed from our contacts at Ripple Labs.

Yeah, the long term is what matters anyway. Grantcoin will be proof of stake by the end of this year, with very few new coins being produced from then on, so the people accumulating now are smart (if you believe this project is meaningful and has a bright future).

Grantcoin is doing well on social media, almost 3,000 followers on Twitter in 2 months, so there's plenty of people interested in this project and watching to see where it goes. Most coins can't say that they're getting much interest outside the altcoin trading community. Grantcoin is, so that bodes well for the long term potential.

As for the reward halving coming up in a few hundred blocks, with fewer GRT being created every day the selling pressure from miners who mine and sell should be reduced, which means it would take less buying each day to maintain the price. If the amount of buying demand per day stays the same as it has been, and there are half as many new coins being dumped onto the market per day, then in theory the price would rise compared to where it is now.

Of course this is assuming that a lot of miners are selling for BTC soon after they mine GRT rather than holding it for the long term. I think that's a safe assumption, since a lot of miners of altcoins convert them into BTC. There's probably also a significant percentage of our miners who are holding the GRT they mine for the long term (at least I hope so), but I would guess it's the minority, based on the selling that can be seen on the markets every day. This coin right now is in the phase where most of the buying action is just absorbing the new coins being produced from the high block reward. But that's not going to last forever.

Hi everyone,

As mentioned by our team member Eric (freebird) in a reply to gilangIDR yesterday, the launch of automated bridge software for transfers of GRT to/from Ripple has been delayed.

For the sake of full transparency about what caused this delay, we published the following news release on our blog today, which also includes info and links for how Ripple users can deposit and withdraw GRT from their Ripple wallet. Key points are in bold.

Quote
New Procedure for Grantcoin Deposits and Withdrawals from Ripple; Auto-Bridge Delayed

The Grantcoin Foundation has posted convenient online forms for users of Ripple Trade to deposit Grantcoin into their Ripple wallet or withdraw it to an external Grantcoin wallet on their desktop or smartphone. Most transfers between the Ripple platform and the Grantcoin blockchain will be processed in the same day they are initiated.

As mentioned in a previous post in early June, the Grantcoin Foundation had hired a company called One Million Gateways to create “auto-bridge” software to automatically process most deposits and withdrawals of Grantcoin from Ripple. Last week, OMG informed us that they’re going out of business and therefore can’t complete our project. This came as a total surprise to the Grantcoin team.

Fortunately, OMG has given us a full refund, and we are already exploring possibilities for how to move forward on the auto-bridge project with other developers. We are also fortunate to be in touch with staff members at Ripple Labs who have offered their advice and input to help Grantcoin succeed in this goal.

The Grantcoin Foundation, a legally incorporated charitable nonprofit organization, assures users of Ripple Trade that (1) you are able to deposit and withdraw Grantcoin to and from Ripple Trade using our current system; (2) turnaround time for deposits and withdrawals will usually be under 24 hours; (3) some users have already requested and received transfers of GRT from Ripple to the Grantcoin blockchain without any difficulty; (4) we are continuing to work towards the goal of eventual full automation of such transfers and will keep the Grantcoin community informed about new developments.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Here's a new interview with Eric Stetson, founder of Grantcoin, which was published on Bitcoin Chaser:

http://bitcoinchaser.com/interviews/grantcoin-interview

Some highlights:

Quote
What caused you to become a cryptocurrency believer?

Grantcoin (Eric): Ever since the financial crisis of 2008, I have been looking for solutions to the problem of too much wealth and power being concentrated in the hands of a few big for-profit investment banks which dominate the world economy. When the U.S. government bailed out the banks that caused the crash, providing them with the hard-earned money of the ordinary taxpayers who were hurt by the banks’ irresponsible actions and doing nothing to help the innocent victims, it became clear to me that financial reform will have to come from the people themselves, not politicians who are mostly funded by and serve the interests of big money.

I first heard about Bitcoin in 2012 and was intrigued by the idea of an alternative currency which enables friction-less transactions across national borders and is not issued into circulation through the banking system. When Bitcoin took off in 2013 I became seriously interested and involved in the cryptocurrency space and started studying the various assets and platforms being created with a peer-to-peer network and public ledger. I came to the conclusion that cryptocurrency offers people the greatest potential to create a working alternative to the corrupt government-supported financial system. Instead of wasting our time and energy complaining about the system that exists and waiting for the powers-that-be to someday see the light and change it, we can create a better system right now. With the power of open-source technology, instead of “occupying” Wall Street, we the people can replace it.

Quote
What is on the horizon for Grantcoin?

Grantcoin (Eric): We’re starting to work on an e-commerce store where people will be able to buy products made by socially and environmentally responsible businesses, using either U.S. dollars, Bitcoin, or Grantcoin. We’re looking into creating a tip bot to encourage micro-grants of Grantcoin on social media. We will work on creating an iPhone wallet app and improving our smartphone wallets. We’re also looking into creating a program to distribute old smartphones to the poor, which would be pre-loaded with a Grantcoin wallet and coins. Mining will be phased out and Grantcoin will become a proof-of-stake currency later this year, which will enable the unbanked to use a Grantcoin phone wallet app as the equivalent of an interest-bearing savings account.

Quote
Where do you see cryptocurrency in 5 years from now?

Grantcoin (Eric): Buckminster Fuller wrote, “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” That’s exactly what activists for financial system reform can do with cryptocurrency. But not just any cryptocurrency. Most of them are poorly designed from a socioeconomic perspective and will not catch on with the general public. Most people, if they are ever going to switch to a radical new form of money, will choose a currency that gives power to the people and encourages an economy that works for everyone, not a model based on greed and hoarding of capital. Most of the cryptocurrencies that exist today will probably not last long, just like many of the dot-com startups in the 1990s, but a few will change the world.

Thanks! Yeah, it's not so bad. We got all our money back quickly, and the folks at Ripple Labs that we've talked with are sympathetic to what we're trying to do and helpful. One of our tech advisors with a development background thinks the bridge can be done fairly easily, from a technical standpoint. That was encouraging to hear.

Dave Hamill Appointed to Grantcoin Foundation Advisory Board

Posted on July 2, 2015 by The Grantcoin Foundation
http://www.grantcoin.org/2015/07/02/dave-hamill-appointed-to-grantcoin-foundation-advisory-board/

The Grantcoin Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Dave Hamill as an Advisor for economics and activism.

Dave is co-founder of the Coalition for Capital Homesteading, an association of organizations and individuals dedicated to empowering every person through equal access to the means to own productive capital. He is also a project manager at the Center for Economic and Social Justice, a Washington D.C.-based think tank which promotes a “just third way” between monopolistic capitalism and socialism, including employee ownership of business and reducing inequality of wealth through monetary system reform.

Dave is the founding owner of Esteo Group Inc. (Excellent Service Through Employee Ownership), a trucking company based in Atlanta, Georgia. He developed the “Justice Growth ESOP” business structure, in which employee-owned corporations are chartered to support widespread ownership education and spin off other employee-owned companies, each of which do the same.

Dave has worked as a Series-3 futures broker, sales manager, and small business owner. He studied business at Louisiana State University. He has been involved in libertarian political campaigns and causes as a ballot-access petitioner and fundraiser, and believes in the importance of building populist coalitions for economic reform that transcend party lines. He is married with three children.

“We’re very happy to have Dave Hamill’s input on our Advisory Board,” said Eric Stetson, Executive Director of the Grantcoin Foundation. “Dave brings to the table diverse experience in business, finance, the nonprofit sector, and grassroots activism. His passionate advocacy for freedom-based solutions to the problems of poverty and inequality, and his strong background in alternative economic theories and policy proposals can help the Grantcoin team continue to develop our monetary system and build a broad-based movement.”

Greece Needs a New Currency Controlled by the People, Not Debt to For-Profit Banks

Posted on July 3, 2015 by The Grantcoin Foundation

Quote
As the Greek financial crisis unfolds, the Grantcoin Foundation stands with the people of Greece against exploitation by the international banking system.

To summarize the crisis, the European banks that provide the money supply to Greece in the form of loans have threatened to cut off funds unless the Greek government makes draconian cuts to social services, which would worsen the already severe economic depression in Greece. Banks throughout Greece have been closed all week and people are not allowed to withdraw their money. This weekend, the Greek people vote in a referendum to decide whether to accept the banks’ terms to restore financial solvency for their nation or whether to default on Greece’s debt, which would probably mean leaving the euro currency and a period of economic chaos.

The Grantcoin Foundation suggests that the root cause of the problem is a monetary system in which for-profit banks issue the money supply as loans, based on their motive to make as much profit as possible by collecting interest from debtors. Any currency that works this way is doomed to create an economy based on exploitation and eventual financial collapse as more and more capital accumulates in fewer and fewer hands.

...

Grantcoin is a global alternative currency managed and distributed by a non-profit organization according to the principles of democracy, sustainability, and social justice. Grantcoin will be distributed around the world to each nation and community based on its population, to help create a more fair distribution of wealth and equal opportunity for people everywhere to gain access to capital and the economic growth it brings. The people in each nation or community will be empowered to distribute Grantcoin into circulation, not as debt owed back to a financial institution with interest, but instead as economic incentive grants to businesses that meet the triple bottom line criteria of profitability and social and environmental responsibility, to help such businesses grow and benefit the public.

...

3,811,619.755319 GRT is currently held in reserve by the Grantcoin Foundation specifically for the people of Greece. This amount is visible in the Grantcoin public ledger at this wallet address: GMfyeQcCxoLkamAAU4UPbHiBJFJT4mXTUX. It will continue to be held there until people in Greece step forward to organize Grantcoin affiliate groups in their country, to begin the process of distributing this Greek reserve of GRT as grants to ethical and sustainable Greek businesses that are willing to accept GRT as a form of payment from customers.

We invite the people of Greece to study Grantcoin by reading the extensive documentation on our website, Grantcoin.org. If you agree with our ideas for how money should work for the public good instead of the private interest of banks, please get involved, begin acquiring and using Grantcoin, spread the word, and contact us to discuss forming a Grantcoin national affiliate in Greece to distribute this new currency of the people, by the people, for the people.
