Hey guys - I wanted to ask if it is possible to put 6 5830 on 1 MOBO. Would it be too cramed and over heat? What do you guys think?

Hint : The 7 slot at the back of an ATX case couldn't care less that you use 5830.

I don't know of a motherboard that has PCI-E slots spaced wide enough to allow for this. Potentially with a funky ribbon cable setup, you could run that many. We have 4x 5830's on a gigabyte board that has 5x PCI-E slots on it. Everything is possible,
Hint : The 7 slot at the back of an ATX case couldn't care less that you use 5830.
5830's take up 2 slots a card. You can't even get 4 cards in a standard case... Some cases have 8, like some Lian Li cases.

You guys are so awesome in this forum. I thought windows can only accept up to 4 cores, and linux up to 6 cores is that not true? If you can really run up up to 8 GPUs on 1 board how do I go about setting it up? I am awaiting more awesomeness from this forum. Thanks guys

True! But worth it. It's a bit like learning languages - the first one (apart from your native language) is hard, but subsequent ones are easier. If you learn Linux you'll pick up transferable skills that will stand you in good stead if you have to use another Unix-variant (including OS X), or even something unrelated (if such beasts still exist). Incidentally, you could always install Linux as a virtual machine, using VMWare or VirtualBox, to play around with before you commit your rig to Linux.

Generally a powersupply will have 4 PCIe power cables, how can 1 run 8 Cards with 1 power supply?

Would that put too much strain on the Molex port on the PSU? because it seems like each card will have their own own 2 PCIe Plugs on the psu, Then the remianing 6 cards will have to share 2 each on a molex port is that bad?

If you get a power supply with only one 12 volt rail then it shouldn't matter as long as you don't exceed the maximum capacity of that rail. Some cheaper power supplies have up to like four 12 volt rails so you would have to balance your load across them all.

Linux kernel can be configured to support an even bigger number of GPUs, there is an option in kernel configuration for it. I'm using Gentoo and there are guides in the internet how to do it, I think that there are also for other linux systems (even if the process differs).

You can get 8 5830's ona single mobo if you do Not have a standard case, Build your own, Better airflow
