GPU mining on sha256 is still valid on solo mining friendly coin.  Try  Cheetahcoin (CHTA),  it has restriction on big ASIC rigs and favors solo mining by running a full node at your home.  It is the most profitable sha256 coin for small solo miners on GPU or USB ASIC like gekko newpac, gekko compac F etc.

Now you can buy an old ASIC for a couple of tens of dollars and get a second one for spare parts for free Smiley The ASIC will consume more than 1 kilowatt per hour and it will be noisy, but it will be better than 1000 video cards or more. Mining SHA256 on video cards is useless.
