So far Private Internet Access hasn't been mentioned (it's really well known - its a forum sponsor). I've personally had a good experience with them - cheaper than most of the other providers and have fast support and more connection options (i.e. OpenVPN, PPTP etc.). If you simply want a good socks tunnel - it might be cheaper to buy a cheap VPS and set up an SSH tunnel.

I'm using Tunlr right now, which is free (for beta testers)...
They do plan to accept BTC in the future though.

avoid purevpn. I tried them and a few things to note. If you pay with bitcoin there refund policy and satisfaction guarantee is null and void. For me I wanted 24/7 connection with no downtime. I used the software and it would never stay connected for more than 18-24 hours. I used the vpn for virtual machines with the windows 7 super lite edition and a lot of the features would not work with it.

I use Private Internet Access and have for a couple years now.. No real issues with them, but since they're a US based company I wouldn't fully trust them when they say that they don't keep any logs on customer usage. However they're fairly cheap, offer a bunch of different payment methods (they accept over a hundred different gift cards IIRC) and have great support. If you're looking for a solid, yet cheap VPN, and are alright not being potentially 100% anonymous, then I'd say PIA is the way to go.

I wouldn't fully trust them when they say that they don't keep any logs on customer usage. On that point - when VPN providers say they don't keep logs it isn't entirely true in most cases. They would have to keep some logs in order to actually fix any technical issues they encounter - not to mention that you cannot actually verify whether or not they keep logs or not. Since you are taking them at their word - it would be best to assume that there are in fact logs, more likely in the US where data retention laws are stronger. VPNs are useful as a means of offering basic anonymity and bypassing restrictive networks - but it isn't the go-to to avoid government spying. |
