Any new news on Sia? Can you also stake sia in the wallet?! Proof-of-Stake kinda defeats the purpose of creating a currency that is supposed to be used. If everyone is too busy staking and trying to create more Sia, less people are actually using the coin's features (file hosting). SIA is super under the radars now* it should head back up to 300x500 satoshi range ..i keep hearing good things sia lucky weeee https://poloniex.com/exchange#btc_scConstantly linking exchanges to every poster is only going to put people off of investing.

Crypto was created to liberate the individual. Decentralisation matters.

I downloaded the app and sent my coins to the address but I noticed this app is syncing, which can take a long time. So I tried to put myself in a casual user's perspective. Does the person trying to rent space have to also wait for the program to finish synching? And if yes, then I wish they had a way around this so that those people don't have to wait around for the sync to complete.

Yes, you need to wait the blockchain to sync or otherwise the siacoins you transfer for renting storage space will not show up in your balance. And yes, there is a way around: try with a manual download, AKA bootstrapping https://siawiki.tech/daemon/bootstrapping_the_blockchain

You can easily buy Sia coin on exchanges? So far only Hitbtc and Poloniex offers the coin as far as I know.

The best. Does sia have a rest API for writing apps to interact with it? How can a user see how much you've earned from SiaFunds?

Yes, Sia has APIs and they are awesome!: https://blog.sia.tech/api-quickstart-guide-f1d160c05235To see how much you have earned so far, run a "wallet" command in the Terminal. Also, you can track how many dividends SFs are producing daily on https://siastats.info/siafunds.html

ECC is too late to the game. Sia is already fully functional, on major exchanges and has tons of miners, disk leasers and users.
I've got 10 extra SiaFunds to sell. PM me serious offers.

anyone able to tell me if there is a potential problem brewing here This patent sounds (to me) very similar to what SIA does.
No problem. Read up on 'prior art' Prior art is any evidence that your invention is already known.
Prior art does not need to exist physically or be commercially available. It is enough that someone, somewhere, sometime previously has described or shown or made something that contains a use of technology that is very similar to your invention.
If anything, most of these commercial blockchain-based patent applications will likely be rejected due to the fact it is extremely difficult to describe a sufficiently unique technological innovation which hasn't already been discussed at some point in recent years, probably on this forum.
