wow, cheap SCs , what is happening?

Nothing to be worried about. But inflation is strong.
Version 1.0.4 is scheduled for next week with improved upload and download speeds.

Meanwhile, there was a blog post by David Vorick about Sia use cases. Retweet if you like it: https://twitter.com/SiaTechHQ/status/802536142629388288

Excellent blog from David!  Thanks for posting, betaboot Smiley

I also peeped David's blog on Bitcoin Unlimited, explaining the danger with such a centralized node implementation. Also an excellent read and another reason why I really like Sia.

The devs not only care about their own project, they truly care about the entire BTC ecosystem and the importance of keeping it decentralized! There are few selfless devs out there who actually have their eye on the bigger picture. Very telling about the quality of individuals who are running the show at Sia

Great post, so some very cool infrastructure is built... and, obviously, "they will come". (Not necessarily).

Maybe it would be a good idea for Nebulous to pick one of the "creative uses" (blockchain storage, etc)...
And build a simple, one-click app that will drive big traffic through the Sia network.

Based on a 6 month chart of SC vs SJCX, Sia is clearly not underperforming.
Also, looking at that chart... which one has more upside?
Or just buy both if one believes p2p storage has a big future.

I´m running SIA-UI 1.0.3 on Windows 7. Every time I reboot the computer I run automatically SIA-UI but I need to unlook the wallet to host files.

Are there any option to unlook the wallet automatically?
If I don´t unlook the wallet, am I hosting the files I had stored previusly?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Flotas!
I wasn't sure myself, so i asked the devs. Here the answer: "There is no automatic unlock, but you only need the wallet unlocked to form new contracts, your existing contracts can still serve data and do storage proofs."

SIA died. It is time to recognize the reality.
The idea was not bad, something new, but as the practice is unnecessary.
Outlook no.
1 person can do something worthwhile, on the SIA can not be large and profitable project.
By this I do not look for any growth until the coin reaches 5 Satoshi.

Doesn't this coin need to be extremely cheap to compete with established tech like DROPBOX and others ... which basically offer GBs of cloud space for FREE?!

Sia doesn't compete against 2GB free storage in Dropbox. You must compare how much you will pay for 10TB in Dropbox vs in Sia. Price of the SC currency is totaly independent of the storage price. Sia storage price in $ will be still more or less cheap.

won't have to wait long to find out,  this coin went from a slow fade to full tilt REKToberfest in just a week, maybe Vorick needs christmas money.  5 sats might not be a crazy target to put orders in.

Then someone needs to tell whoever to update the SIA website FAQ, prolly white paper too...

The Siacoin is used to buy storage on the Sia network, and it's base value is derived from that.

Reality check here guys... between Dropbox, Google, Microsoft and Amazon, the price of cloud storage is a race to the bottom. Google and Microsoft could give terabytes away to enterprise customers for free for months with little impact to their bottomline. SIACOIN can be the price of dirt and still be in an uphill battle to compete, because nothing is cheaper than free and these tech giants have armies of developers to make their shit shine.

Someone say something about customers?

Enterprise IT is the only big customer base willing to adopt and pay for this stuff.

For an enterprise IT shop to take interest, price is important... but more critical is reliability and user friendliness.  CTO's or IT upper management are not going to sign-up for bleeding edge software that generates boat loads of support tickets.  IT guys are lazy, they don't like users and don't like responding to support tickets even more.  Also, most enterprise IT management is conservative, resistant to changing technology (and underwear) -- why? because their pay/bonuses often depend on meeting SLA's (i.e. DOWNTIME : ANGRY USERS = BAD).  Damn, it's taken most of them years to entertain the idea of using servers hosted outside their own data centers...

Is SIA good for anything other than decentralised storage. I seem to recall the devs were quite competent, and not into hype. But I haven't looked at it for a while

The idea is good and very lever so well done to that. The problem is how  secure is this ? How secure is my data ? If the network goes down or there is a problem then I will not only lose my data but end up with a useless coin as well. Or at least one we can trade with still but it will lose alot of value.

Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Dropbox, and in the future Kim Dotcom's MEGA UPLOAD 2 ... all driving the cost of cloud storage in one direction: down.

Too much supply = Lower cost = Siacoin in shitter
