Went on hiking this afternoon and took these shots on my way. You can see the red roof of the hydropower station and the smaller blue ones next to it - that is our BTC mine.
Received a message from Wu Gang when I came back. Said that the company's plan was to build 100 mine like this one over the next decade, all using recyclable energy. Quite exciting, isn't it?

One caveat of relying on hydropower is that in winter, the supply is likely to be limited. This is something that I only recently learned. Sorry if this bit of information came a bit too late.

So what will you do in the winter? Move back to Inner Mongolia?

Can you elaborate on why the Hydro power would be limited in the winter? Something freezing somewhere? Electricity needed elsewhere?

Starting on May 26, I have embarked on a three-month project working and living in a BTC mining farm located in the mountainous region of western Sichuan province. Using cheap hydro-power and low-cost water-cooling system, this farm has achieved high ROI rate. Right now it generates 4.7 petahash/sec and according to our plan will max at 12P over the next three to four months period. Transparency is central part of our philosophy and this facility will be open to visitation - write me if you want to drop by and enjoy the spectacular view or test your manliness (or womanliness, for that matter) by finding out if you can triumph over a rugged mountain life.
Note 1: I just revised the headline and writing to better reflect the nature of this thread, which will be a series of short pieces and photos reporting on my life here. Post your questions and I will be happy to answer them when I get a chance. June 2, 2015

Most likely the water freezes during the winter so the flow to the hydro station is substantially reduced.

More to do with the local precipitation pattern than temperature. We have been thinking of building mobile mines that can be towed by trucks like trailers.

We have about 6P running and 1.5P more that is expected to go online over the next couple of days. We have another 3P hosted in facilities operated by others.

couldn't you redirect the heat from the miner to the water, so you ca build a perfect system, and water will not freeze, at least in theory

June 24
These shots were taken two days ago - in the afternoon, a Tibetan man came - there aren't many biological traits setting them apart from the Han Chinese, but this man like many of the Tibetans carried a knife, as you can see in some of the shots.
He was trying to sell us some of his "medicine": These dry worms with pieces of wooden stuff attached to its ends are priced at RMB 40 apiece - no Bitcoin accepted, unfortunately, and they are said to have great health benefit, such as boosting immune system and that sort of thing.
To get these worms, the man said that he had to climb to the top of the snowy peak that that you can see in some images i posted.
Guo Peng, a colleague opened up pocket and bought 800 yuan's worth.
I didn't.
