I wanted to start this topic,by asking whats going on with the mining gear with bitcoin or scrypt.

are they dying out? is there no new machines in the works?

does any one have any insight in the big companies about any hardware. 2014 was so big for mining is it now buy bulk old machines and just mine bitcoin.

i only know that knc are investing in 16nm chip and that a new line up of miners is coming for them, but as it was said they don't sell anymore, so it's a bit of pointless news

I missed 2014 when we can saw many bitcoin mining hardware companies announed their products and compete each other on market Cheesy
It was happen when bitcoin price still high and mining can be profitable (at least by calculation).

Now many companies either become scam company or bankrupt, and others are not active developing new products Sad
it seems recent BTC price drop lowering market's demand for mining hardware.

Meanwhile in China, there are some big bitcoin miner facility spend their hash to mining bitcoin.
Are those miner purchased mining hardware from their local hardware companies?

gaw-zen-paycoin just about killed off scrypt with their tatics.

and once the s-3 jumped from 2 watt gear to .8 watt gear  the asic world simply stopped efficiency wise.

we are now at .48watt gear. under clock the sp20 and it drops to .48 watts

big farms and builders now find cheap power , as that cost less then making new gear.

I can break the math down if you want it.

but a guy with .8watt s-3's and 3 cent power wins over a guy with .51 watt s-5's and 10 cent power.

this has changed the builders mind set. quite a bit.

Gridseed - Became Sfards and has hardware in the works
what is Sdards mean?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=985400
http://www.sfards.com/
The word ‘Sfard’ is derived from Latin, and is the self-given name of the ethnic group thought to be the very first users of the coin.

I think that about sums it up.  Did I miss anyone that is not bankrupt or a scam?
Nope, that just about covers it.  Arguably ASICMiner is in a state of limbo, but the net result is the same - nothing (new) available.
Speculation-wise, LK Group is working on a chip, and if anybody feels like believing HashCoins, then whatever is in their vaporware-so-far miner may or may not be new.

There is a lot of talk about the next batch of antminers but so far nothing has been released.  There seem to be quite a few models in the works, this should be an interesting year for hardware.

Your best bet is bitmaintech.  I think the S5 and S4 are their last two miners for the public.

Yoshi told me that he is concentrating on building data centers in WA.

KNC - Only making hardware for themselves

Spondoolies - Only making hardware for themselves

Bitmain - No new ASIC announced

Avalon - Currently selling their 4.1 miner

Bitfury and 21 - Are coming out with something soon but details are not clear. Seems like they will be low hashrate chips integrated into basic items.

I think that about sums it up.  Did I miss anyone that is not bankrupt or a scam?

KNC - Losing money only mining for themselves, $4.4 million loss on $74 million revenue in 45 days from November 15th to year end 2014. That's awful, and that was at a much higher bitcoin price. Given how mining is a margins game, the 50% drop in price since then means they are probably losing several times that $4.4 million every 45 days now. They're probably betting the farm that their new chip will save them.

Spondoolies - Are they? Their announcements and focus seems to suggest they'll still sell equipment when they make more.

Bitmain - Support told me the S7 would be out in late July. Specifically said S7, no mention of S6.

Avalon - Their reputation is tarnished. I'm surprised they haven't at least changed their names to distance themselves from the their late 2013 miner debacle.

Bitfury - Still mining for themselves in Georgia and Iceland. They had a large facility in Finland but closed it only months after opening.

21 - Has a pool identified by some which would give them 0.2ish% of the network. Lends to the rumour that they were originally a failed secret mining operation.

Other players:

Friedcat vanished with the ASICminer farm.

Rockminer - I see *some* good posts about them, but I'm really put off their website layout. Seems like they're using other people's technology and making their own miners?

so mostly all became cloud services and or are building hardware for them selves.

so what are we left with?  would be nice to get some new hardware and maybe than everything will start to rise again maybe even the alt coins.

I think the reason so many became a ponzi or scam was due to the price of bitcoin plummeting. I dont think it was even their intentions to turn out the way they did.

but who knows. maybe the price will bounce back up.

I hope we do get some new models I read last year about 500 MH/s of scrypt power But I am guessing that was just some bull.

That would of been sick though.

Will be more equipment coming out but in all honesty with next year in the swig for next half on rewards is it really going to be worth it tho that begs the question 25 going down to 12.5 reward on blocks is going to take double the hash power to generate what we generating now and to get effective equipment to do that is going to take a monster amount of power. I know for sure going to be looking into other methods of coins to go into BTC after but maybe move away from btc and look into other cryptos for the future.

It's quite possible that the target audience of a KNC announcement is NOT the public at large. It may well be to satisfy existing investors, or possibly attract new investors. It's probably easier to get significant money from actual investors, rather than folks that thought they were customers (i.e. pre-orders).

I personally have never purchased directly from manufacturers, I find it much more cost effective to buy from panic wholesalers on places like forums, Amazon, eBay, and Craigslist.

i only know that knc are investing in 16nm chip and that a new line up of miners is coming for them, but as it was said they don't sell anymore, so it's a bit of pointless news

yea I saw something as well about that but if they are not building it for the public that is kind of dumb considering they made an announcement again I hope we get some new hardware in so we can buy.

I remember buying an A2 for around $11,000 Smiley and made some coin and alt coin off of it than after selling it for around $6,000 dont think I ever ROI'd but it was fun.

maybe they will do the same thing that they have done in the past, like asking you money for pre-orders, ship the initial 1 and 2 batch, and then close the door for future orders

usually when you get a good ROI chance is being one of the first couple batches on a new unit.  after that I also buy second hand as the difficulty and btc price makes roi on higher up batches harder and harder

this is pretty much the best way…

As a miner threading water is big.  breaking even for 6 months then a 1 to 3  week spike and you make a shit ton of money.

last good time for mining was in the fall for 2 weeks nicehash rentals were 3 to 6 fold.  I earned 2.8 btc in 11 days.

Yeah I was using betarigs during that time and it was pretty good also.  I might jump back in and get some hardware soon, but debating between sp20's or waiting for future gen stuff "supposedly" this month

Yup and a new company to come out soon too that will wipe a lot of the current markets out, but will sure give antminer a run for their money. Their a few company's in the making however its a mater of if their legit and deliver on time as promised, or their just another BFL job and take pre orders. I know one thing for sure is that I will never do pre orders with any company ever again. Nice first days of avalon, ok I got my rig however massive amounts of bitcoin chucked at it could of been far better off keeping the BTC and just wasting for the rise. Mining now unless free energy and cheap and PH of hash your gonna be pissing in the wind to brake even or RIO on top.

That "yesminer" is an obvious scam.  It's always a bad sign when they're taking pre-orders for delivery 5 months later from a "team of veterans" none of whom are listed.  Anyone that does not have a reputable established name in the industry is not worth the risk of a pre-order.  It's like saying if you give me $100 today I'll give you $200 in 5 months.  The only companies I would recommend a pre-order relationship with is:

Spondoolies
Bitmain
Bitfury (not so sure they're selling gear)

Those are the only ones that I know have created products without taking millions of dollars from their customers and not providing what they promised.

Regards,
Yan
