Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

There are a lot of Zeitgeist Movement members up in Austin that might be interested in meeting you.

I think we definitely need something planned around SXSW.

What's in it for me?

No, but really.  What do you hope to accomplish or discuss?  Just hang out?  I wonder if it's worth giving up any privacy for.

I'm also curious who is near Austin, though.

I'd be willing to make the trip from San Antonio as long as I'm available.

BTW, is this THE  Atlas?

Still around.

I like things to be a gradual process. We discuss Bitcoin, events and just hang out at first. Then if our interests meet in a few places, we can possibly start something or help Bitcoin in some way.

Standard networking, if you will.

Likewise.

Can we get a tally of folks interested in a 1-hour (or so) coffee-shop meetup in Austin?

Seeing that OP is old, I'd still be interested in meeting up... I don't think anything was ever organized. There HAS to be more Bitcoiners than those that replied here in Austin!

The location is not set in stone. I'd be willing to move it to someplace a little more northerly, like maybe the Lion and Rose. That should cut a good 20 minutes off your drive.

Still around.

I'm not going to make it to SA tonight, but count me in for any Austin bitcoin meetups. I'm still relatively new to bitcoin, but I'm excited to learn more.

Fellow Austin / San Antonio Bitcoiners,

I was glad to find this thread as I'd also like to connect with the Bitcoin folks in the Austin / San Antonio area. May I suggest we meet half way in San Marcos at 7:30 p.m. at the Starbucks off Interstate 35 next week.

Address: 3939 IH-35 South #925 San Marcos, TX

As for what to discuss I'm most interested to plan a push for Bitcoin adoption by Startups at SXSW.

I've been talking to folks in the Bitcoin community and already Tony the CEO of Bitpay has agreed to come to SXSW and speak about Bitcoin. Here is a link to his recent talk at the Bitcoin conference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hH4rH6wu25U&t=180

I've got a software technology start up, "Engine Inc". (www.LDEngine.com) that is planning to begin accepting Bitcoin in March at the launch of our Beta at SXSW. I'd love to get a half dozen or dozen other start ups to announce their support for Bitcoin. For startups I think it makes amazing sense to give such a tech savvy and early adopter type community easy access to their new products.

Austin Startups Partnering With Bitcoin that type of headline event during SXSW.

I think we could get a lot of folks in the Bitcoin community excited about doing a big push a SXSW and use their help to find the event location, sponsors, speakers and more.

Private message me or respond to this thread if you are interested in organizing a great Bitcoin event for SXSW.

-DJohnston
