Taiwanese Company Brings Bitcoin to 10,000 Convenience Stores

Quote
Taiwanese startup Maicoin has launched a system that lets users buy bitcoin at 10,000 convenience stores in the territory, both over the counter and at in-store terminals.

Maicoin founder and CEO Alex Liu said foreign workers using bitcoin for remittances would benefit from the over-the-counter service, as it does not require users to have a bank account.

In Asia, people routinely pay utility and postal bills at convenience stores by giving physical cash to store clerks who initiate electronic transfers.

It is good that Bitcoin services are available on so many stores. But the big question is who is going to use them? Right now, there are at the most around 1 million Bitcoin users, of which some 100,000 may be serious users. Even if we estimate that 1% of them (1,000) reside in Taiwan, that corresponds to 10 stores per user.

it is always good to have this places in case we will see a huge surge in bitcoin-users in the future. we have today alot more infrastructure than back in 2013, and we will need that.
