This isn't a new story, we've already seen press hits regarding the mentioned blog, just a follow up, the author will face up to 15 years in prison:

Jihadist US teen faces prison for blog, tweets about encryption and Bitcoin

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2015/06/jihadist-us-teen-faces-prison-for-blog-tweets-about-encryption-and-bitcoin/

Quote
A 17-year-old Virginia teen faces up to 15 years in prison for blog and Twitter posts about encryption and Bitcoin that were geared at assisting ISIL, which the US has designated as a terror organization.

The teen, Ali Shukri Amin, who contributed to the Coin Brief news site, pleaded guilty (PDF) Thursday to a federal charge of providing material support to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.

Bullshit. All the plea demonstrates is that the boy had to choose between up to 15 years and his whole damn life.

Too bad. But this is the price which you have to pay, when you decide to support a terrorist organization which has murdered 300,000 people to date. For my part, I don't feel any sympathy towards him. He was an educated, well informed and talented person. Still he chose to embrace the devil. Now it is time to face some music for it.

It was on our local news too, and I have no sympathy for him. He knew what he was doing and being a teen makes no difference. If he was not guilty, why would he plead guilty on the charges brought against him? The Americans are doing anything in their power to prevent another 911 in their own country. I do not support any action, that may result in the murder of innocent people, not even the deaths caused by the indiscriminate bombing by the Americans. Do what you need to do, to prevent human fatalities.

How? By importing people like Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to the United States? What goes around comes around. The Americans have been supporting extremist organizations all around the world, for their own selfish benefits. They have supported the Afghan Taliban, Kosovo Albanian Mafia, Al Nusra, Chechen rebels.etc during different time periods. Now, some of them are biting them back.

I have no sympathy for jihadists or anyone supporting their cause, although 15 to 30 years in prison is way too much, but I live in a place where the maximum penalty is 25 years.

Article title is a bit misleading, it's not just for simply blogging and tweeting about encryption and bitcoin, he also helped recruiting people for ISIS, plus he was specifically writing about how to use these technologies to advance their cause, technologies are amoral, what you do with them is what defines you...

All these American teens rushing to join ISIS reminds me of the hippy radicals of the 60s who would go "underground" and join the weathermen or the black panthers... kidnap people and throw malatov cocktails... they eventually grew out of it and went on to wall street (the ones who weren't sent to jail.)

Its like something they get all passionate about when they're young but when they get older they are a little more prudent.

I honestly believe these ISIS joining teens are just trying to piss off their parents. Problem is, by the time they are old enough to know better they'll be dead.

back in my day we'd just be punk rockers and act like hooligans... the politics were more anarchist than anything. Who the fuck would want to live in a world run by islamic extremists? where is the pay off? Seems like those guys dont want to have fun, or let any one else have fun either.

for a tweet punishment is too excessive, the US government too hasty in deciding punishment without getting strong evidence whether this child really helps get funding for ISIS, it could have been just nonsense that he created to seek attention and followers.

Well said. Teenagers have a tendency to adopt radical views of any sort to add some deeper meaning to their lives. I guess concept of getting education, a steady job/income, starting family and carry on working until retirement is not attractive enough (or simply boring) for many.

Luckily the vast majority of those rebelled teens will balance their views as the times goes by, often making 180 degrees turns.

If I have any compassion at all for that 17-year old, it's simply because of his young age.

On a side note, if he had replaced "ISIS" with "anti-Syrian rebels", he probably would only be facing getting pat in the back from the gov.

Why don't you read the article carefully, before commenting? He wasn't arrested for just a tweet. He was communicating with various ISIS leaders and militia members. He even convinced another 18-year old American citizen to travel to Syria, in order to join the ISIS. He was arrested, because he was acting as an ISIS recruiter.
