I am a middle-ware developer having 6 years of IT experience and looking forward to change the course of my career towards blockchain technology. I have been through many forums as to find out which tools or programming languages should I learn so as to become a Blockchain developer. Also which areas of blockchain has more demand : cryptography,proof of work, smart contracts, or consensus algorithms ?
Also what is the scope as a blockchain developer in India and Would it be a wise decision to venture into a niche technology like blockchain after 6 years of middle-ware experience ?

For your first question, i would prefer if someone who has high experience in coding and building blockchain to answer. As far i can say there is not single, people are developing it in many different ones. search for a project which is coded in the language u are most comfortable with. check out git.
secondly, all the areas are being explored and tested. everything is fairly new and evolving. i dont think u can separate the areas u have mentioned by 'demand'. Please read the bitcoin whitepaper by Satoshi Nakamoto from bitcoin[dot]org.
If still, i would put it like this. The most demand is for bitcoin and its blockchain which also has lead to the only network with highest security thus likely generating more demand in use case.
For now, i would say keep learning and prepare for the things to come. The scope is pretty decent. Just need to filter the scams and vaporwares from the realistic projects and use cases.
and one golden rule, atleast for years to come,
Everything except bitcoin is sh*tcoin.
