GPU miners don't recognize it. I have an Alienware M15x with 5850M overclocked to 5870M levels. (5870m is just a differently clocked 5850m). How can I mine with this GPU?

GUIMiner is the simplest answer but mobile GPUs are about half the speed of their desktop equivilent

Make sure you Catalyst driver is Catalyst 10.10 or above so OpenCL works

The name in the drop down list probably won't be 5850m, Ati chips have silly names like Barts or Cypress

If you still cannot get it to work try a ready made linux distro like LinuxCoin which you can boot from a USB stick.

doesn't show up at all in the opencl devices list.

I've updated the Calayst to the latest version and installed a bunch of AMD development tools which is supposed to feature OpenGL support for my graphics card? Doesn't work either..

if anyone else has got a 5850M working on alienware please let me know how.

If you're on XP you will need to use an sdk older than 2.6 to mine because they dropped openCL support for XP in versions 2.6 and later.

Btw, Your going to kill your laptop by trying to mine bitcoins on it, If you even can.
Alienware Sucks. And laptops Always commit suicide when someone mines on them, They are not meant for 24hr stress, Nor should you even Game on it while it's plugged into the wall

LinuxCoin hasn't been updated in a very long time.

You are better off installing a more recent distro and set up the miner on it.

Also mining with a laptop GPU is a waste of resources.
