It's official.  QE3 is here.  Here, Fed chairman Ben Bernanke describes vividly the personal biological pre-conditions that motivated this latest round of bond purchasing.

blood shot eyes, are you implying that he's high?

Maybe he's referring to some other bodily feautures here??

Thats a long process, that can take up to a decade from now. Therefore it would be a long slide, rather then a crash (unless the government decides to seize all physical gold possessions once again).

Well I think the goal of QE is to weaken the dollar. So yes, QE3 will work, as did QE1&2.

how badly would gold crash if the economy recovered?

back to 300$/oz?

how low will the USD be when that happens is the real question. I don't think we'll ever see 300$/oz again without a "New Dollar"

QE isn't about weakening the dollar... that's a side effect
its about forcing banks to loan money.

traders are all like Mitt Romney they only know how to make money on a crashing stock.

what if QE3 works   :

QE does "work" for what it's intended, governments printing money can stealthily tax everybody a certain % per dollar they have.

If the government were to ask every one for this money a) they wouldn't get it and b) it would create a shit storm.

When tax moneys desperately needed governments think outside of the box and move the goal posts. By changing the term tax for stimulus so few people realize what's going on they are fooled into believing it's a good thing and they don't lose anything from it!!

-With tax they take a little bit of money off everyone so people have less purchasing power after collection (this will piss everyone off and wont get you re-elected)
-With 'stimulus or QE' they print more money, devaluing everyone's money a little bit so people have less purchasing power after printing (this is known within high government circles as happy tax Smiley )

And forcing cash hoarders to spend/invest.

right,

So the only thing that could foil QE plans is if everyone invest into things like Gold and not them self's, and hope the economy goes to shit, just so they can play out their "financial meltdown survivor" fantasy

I never said the USD will crash. Just a slow and steady grind.
Hyperinflation could happen, but I think it'll be prevented.
And if that happens, yes people will accept gold. Always better than worthless paper. At least that's what history shows.
But again, I still have doubts they'll go that far.

And btw, don't worry about what I do. Ask yourself what the US gov is doing, and why

Works well to a point.  I habitually keep as few USD as possible.  To some degree I buy things that I may or may not if I were not wanting to unload rapidly declining USD denominated assets in risky entities (e.g., anything quote/unquote 'regulated' by those retained by our political leadership for that purpose.)  A fair fraction of the excess goes into PM's however, and for a time a chunk of it went into Bitcoin.  As more and more people turn into PM/Bitcoin 'weirdo's like myself, I would expect a shift in strategy.  Until then I figure that QE will keep on keepin' on.
