The BITTREX de-listing SCAM

How the scam works:

1) Remove the coin from the exchange.

2) Do not return coins to the owners.

A simple but effective scam.

I have proposed many solutions to BITTREX in an attempt to stop this scam. BITTREX doesn't listen. I do NOT want to write a formal complaint to the SEC about BITTREX on behalf of my 8 clients and myself. My goal here is to have BITTREX make a pro-active change in the way they operate.

Here are some solutions:

1) Allow users to enter a "de-listing public address" where coins will be sent to if the coin ever becomes de-listed.

if users do not have a de-listing address set,

2) Email users the private keys to their funds.

3) Show users the private keys to their de-listed coins inside the HTTPS: BITTREX account panel.

I'm sure there are many other solutions as well.

Other exchanges that run this de-listing scam:

- c-cex

Exchanges that do NOT participate in the de-listing scam:

- poloniex

- cryptsy

Demand more from BITTREX.

* I will give BITTREX until January 1st 2016 to either make appropriate changes to how they operate or issue a press release on this matter.

If they continue to steal users coins, I will have no choice but to report them on behalf of my clients and myself.

Bittrex LLC

A USA company stealing peoples coins!

They have the ability to return users coins but instead chose to keep them. A judge would probably determine they are abusing their power.

Maybe the threat of sending multiple complaints to the SEC will change BITTREX's mind on how they return coins to users.

Maybe this thread will be enough to get some pro-active change going on at bittrex.

This BITTREX de-listing SCAM can also wreck cryptocoins. Some coins have large percentages of total coins on BITTREX. BITTREX may be able to acquire so many coins through this SCAM that devs and communities lose motivation. This SCAM eliminates many community members of coins after these community members lose their coins.

Of course. Just trying to scare BITTREX into changing. I'm not sure how else to get BITTREX to change. They have ignored me for over 9 months on this issue.

I would way rather put together some sort of social media buzz dissin BITTREX all day every day on this issue. It would be a hard thing to put together.

Would you support a negative social media campaign towards BITTREX until they return users coins?

You're right, but I still love having my shit coins. I've lost many different coins. I don't think any of them have ever come back to life.

I don't like BITTREX's de-listing policy because it can be like a final blow to the coin.

BITTREX steals a mass number of coins... coin community completely dies.

It's possible that if BITTREX emails users back their coins... community still exists. The coin could downgrade to a smaller exchange like bluetrade and continue on.

I have changed the poll and reset it.

I only see two ways of making BITTREX change their policy.

Scare them with legal action.

Effective their bottom dollar with a negative campaign.

I also dislike bittrex keeping delisted coins (the very least they should send them back to the address they were deposited from) but I also don't think this poll has any merit. Good luck though.

That's a bad attitude to have. People pay real BTC for coins. Whether the coin sucks or not, BITTREX should return users coins to them.

You should be mad that BITTREX lists pump n dump coins in the first place. BITTREX shouldn't even list coins that are just made for pump n dumps.

BITTREX has turned into such a scam site, they actually list coins that don't have a block explorer!

I remember maybe 6 months ago or longer BITTREX would review source code, block explorers and not list various coins after the coin failed the review process. Now anyone can pay 3 BTC and get listed on BITTREX even without a block explorer.

I could believe a conspiracy theory that BITTREX makes deals with devs to de-list coins. Something like... get a super majority of coins, rebrand the coin, do manual coin swap, remove all transparency. Relist the coin on BITTREX under a new name.

A more likely conspiracy theory would be not only BITTREX, also c-cex and coin devs all work together to come up with scams to steal peoples BTC.

But that's not really the point of this thread.

The point is:
Should BITTREX return de-listed coins to their users?

The biggest problem is that this is actually becoming an industry standard practice. Exchanges think it's their right to steal your coins if you don't withdraw them within a 14 day de-listing period.

I would like to keep things transparent and have all coins returned to users.

I think, the best way would be to create a private key, where the coins are stored and send it to the user by email.
Everything done... The user doesn't have to do any action... ridiculous, that this is not already the standard...

I lost a high amount of coins. If they ever turn out to get worthy later, I will bite my ass for sure...

Bittrex is the toxic in the whole crypto industry, holding back legit innovations, they scam unshamefully. Since they in las vegas they might be addicted to gambling so they scam people to gamble some more lol, i say take legal action to shot down their site. They cooperate with other thieves and scammers aswell.

Yup.

Even with the scam aside their delisting policy promotes illegal wash trading. I would use extreme caution when trading at bittrex.

Any legal action would have to be a civil suit. There have been there have been complaints about Bittrex to both State and Federal authorities, but the government isn't interested in looking into it.

Can you still edit the poll? What about adding a forth option to vote for:

* bittrex implements a technical solution: each user can store a one-per-coin return target address, in case the coin gets de-listed

Then, when I have invested into a coin which I want to hodl (or auto-sell in a possible rally - that's why I keep them on the exchange in the first place, in a high-price sell order) ...

... I simply download the wallet, make a new address, copy that address into a new field on my bittrex webpage.

Done. And then I can go sailing happily across the Pacific for 6 months, or into the Amazonian jungle, or on top of the Himalayas - without fear that my coins will get de-listed in the meantime.

---

EDIT: Who needs the authorities when a simple technical solution can fully solve a problem?
EDIT2: Will not work for broken coins, when the blockchain is stuck, but those are only a few.

Heh i'm only going to jump in this thread because this actually isn't a bad idea and I'll think about it a bit... I do have to ask though, if you're sailing across the pacific for 6 months, or in the amazonian jungle, or climbing the himalayas for extended periods of time... why would you leave your coins on an exchange.  Time and time again it is proven that leaving funds on any exchange is a bad idea.  Even as an exchange owner, i advise against using any exchange as an online wallet.  That is not why we're here.

Most of the time when we delist a market, we leave the wallets there for 30-45 days before we even send notification that we are removing a wallet;  and when we do notify on wallet removal, we give everyone an additional 14-21 days.  We notify via email, twitter, our help center, and on the specific wallet page.  I don't know what else we have to do to get people to remove their funds.

Know also, none of the funds that we keep are ever liquidated, spent, or anything.  The wallet.dat is kept in cold storage and if we list the coin again (as we have done many times before with MONA, FTC, UTC, and a bunch of others), we just restore the balance.  So I don't get how this benefits us at all.  A technical solution might be ideal, but users are responsible for their own funds and we operate under a very publicly disclosed and transparent policy.

thanks,
richie@bittrex

what's wrong with transferring back yourself to your account when they announce they will delist a coin ?
You manage the coin of 8 clients and you can't even check from time to time how some coin are doing ?
seriously you are the one who is not doing his job...

also all exchange are doing this... I haven't seen an exchange which send back the coin to the user wallet

That is my biggest concern. All exchanges are starting to think this is perfectly fine. It damages coins and can destroy the coins!

The fees they charge on volume to stay on BITTREX are so tiny. It seriously only costs like $1 in fees every 2 weeks to remain listed.  I'm sure they can offer more support for coins than they offer now. BITTREX could offer free or premium paid services for coins. They could try to do things to help build up coins and make them more valuable.

I would also like to see more loyalty for coins that BITTREX currently offers. They should do a minimum 1 year term when listing a coin. Is it really too much to commit 1 year to a coin? They should really offer 5 years of guaranteed trading. No one wants to invest in a coin when it might be de-listed next month.

They should never de-list an official BITTREX ICO like they did with IcebergCoin and CraigsCoin.

As of right now... This looks like what BITTREX does:

- Add a coin while it's hot. Suck out as much volume as possible. Throw the coin in the garbage. Repeat.
- Add a scam premined/instamined/ICO coin for a fee.

This model will lose money for investors = Investors will not invest again and they won't tell their friends to invest in BITTREX coins.

I might consider going as far as requiring users to first enter a return address before investing in a coin.

Bittrex should supply a paper wallet creator for all of their coins. I like to use this universal paper wallet generator for my clients and myself: http://cryptolife.net/upwg/

This would help the learning curve for new big time investment firms.

The big volume will come once exchanges like BITTREX offer a quality platform that investment firms feel confident dealing with.

Bittrex doesn't randomly delist coins for no reason. Their pages warn you of a delisting and tell you to remove all coins. This isn't a scam, they aren't going to spend money on a coin that is not making them money. That's how business works. I'm also pretty sure you can contact support and request your coins back after they delist the coin (not 100% certain).

It's not like your coin is worth anything if Bittrex is removing it. Quit complaining about pennies on the dollar and make sure YOU watch for delisting warnings.

Stop supporting poor services! No big investors will ever use BITTREX. BITTREX sucks. It is a scam because they steal your coins.

The big time investors don't know how to install QT clients on their computers. They don't know what a paper wallet it. Investors want tools, services, support, quality investments and ease of use. They want all of this stuff at a few clicks of a button. BITTREX should have a paper wallet creation tool and then a paper wallet sweeping tool to bring the coins back into the exchange. This would make it very easy for old people to start investing heavily into BITTREX.

BITTREX needs to stop stealing coins and figure out a way that 100% of all de-listed coins get returned to the owners.

I wonder if BITTREX even realizes how big they could be.

@fartbags is right. Bittrex should show more loyalty to coins. I would call for a minimum 2 year listing policy. Development is slow so 2 years would be a good timeframe to list a coin before a review period.

I actually witnessed them re-enable a wallet today to let someone get their old coins back. bittrex-richie is a sweet teddy bear and absolutely one of my most favorite people I've ever met. I wish I could trade places with his wife. They're running a legit exchange with an emphasis on security. They can't continue to run coins that aren't even making them the money they need to keep the server up; that's just bad business.

Bad business is adding coins while they are "hot", sucking out as much volume as possible, de-listing the coin and stealing all of the coins left on the exchange.

But...they don't do that. They warn you fairly and a lot of people take their coins out. If you don't take your coins out, you can ask support for them back, but it is really just your fault.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the way Bittrex lists and delists coins. It is smart and good for both customers and business.

I wouldn't continue to host shitcoins with no volume either. AKA most of them  Kiss

Beware of any coin who writes one of their goals as "getting on BITTREX".

The dev clearly just wants to dump on BITTREX and disappear.

The worst thing about this bittrex stuff is that whether or not they are intentionally scamming, because they are so fast to delist coins, it really makes for pump and dump.  You are forced to sell coins that you might want to keep, and if you are not checking the site all the time, then oyu will just lose the coins.  I have started to use other exchanges in stead because of this.  I had a small stash of epy for example.  The price dropped to nothing, but so what, I can just hold.  But it gets the delisted message, so I transfer to another exchange.  But the transfer never goes through, and both exchanges say it is not their fault.  Meanwhile epy has a rally and my coins are lost in limbo somewhere.  So I miss out on an opportunity to make some money.  I am not crying because I only had some dust in there basically, but it is still annoying.  I wish they would not delist so fast on there.

I've been in their IRC channel doing basic support and I've NEVER seen anyone not get their coins.

LOL I guess since you never seen it, it never happens.  HA!  Anyway, I don't like their policies with coins either.  Plus their fees are higher than the competition.  I don't use them as much as other exchanges, which is too bad because I like their interface.  Right now Poloniex is my favorite exchange but they are all changing pretty fast so that could be different tomorrow.

Apparently The New York Stock Exchange is a bigger scam than BITTREX

It looks like this scenario played itself out...

BITTREX got hated on, dropped substantially in volume and is no longer the #1 exchange. No action needed. The people figured it out all by themselves.

I have hopes BITTREX can improve and bring in way more volume than it ever has.

Here is a tip for BITTREX once they have figure out how to return users coins to them after a delisting. An interesting feature that could help any exchange:

-A paper wallet sweeping tool. This will allow older people to get into this easier. Store coins in paper wallets. Instantly sweep them back onto the exchange. No wallet download/sync needed.

After almost 6 months, any news about it?  Huh

Why simply not show me list of my coins was delisted, like Bleutrade?

https://bleutrade.com/member/my_wallet?show_delisted=1

In this list I can SEE and TRANSFER any coin delisted.

Sounds like your account was compromised.  It wouldn't make any sense for Bittrex to steal your 1.02 BTC.
