Besides mining and actually buying bitcoins themselves, what are some good ways you guys have come up with to earn extra bitcoins? Im too broke and dont have a credit card yet so buying bitcoins is out of the question for me at the moment, and my computer is already running a server off of it so cant really mine, but I am very interested in trying to earn some coins to play around with.

also, are mining pools worth it? iv got a ati radeon hd 4350 512mb and itel core 2 quad q8200 if thats any help lol

Mining, Purchasing or participating in the economy (buy/sell good for BTC).  Tongue

Pools are useful for most everyone but the larger miners who can get a block every few days or so.  They allow for you to get .01 BTC at a time depending on how fast you're processing.

I earned 2BTC some time ago helping someone with solving a poker quiz. I found the offer in the bitcoin-otc irc channel.

^^^ Duely noted :p Iv been thinking about starting up some websites that use bitcoin as a payment method or incorporate it in some other way. Will have to wait a bit though till other projects are done

I've earned about 8 BTC since I first heard about Bitcoins a month ago, without doing any mining. All I've done is look for opportunities around the forum, whether it's doing a screencast for kiba, or submitting a t-shirt idea for Square2Wear. This is a pretty awesome community, especially for a broke college student like me.

Check out the results from my Bitcoin Survey Project!

I've earned 0.16 of tips for writing a blog post explaining the bitcoin protocol - not really cost effective, but I would write it anyway Smiley

I think one problem in earning Bitcoins at this stage is, that the price keeps rising and rising, so people are hoarding Bitcoins and are not really willing to buy goods with it.

As I can see, the best chances to get bitcoins are by buying against cahs, selling mining equipment or gambling.

Even the faucet (http://freebitcoins.appspot.com/) does not work the moment.

Probably a good thing to do right now is write about Bitcoin for bitcoins. I've seen some requests for writers on the forums.
