i lost couple thousand dollars when I forced to buy coins from mtgox at $1100 a piece cause it was the only way to my cash out of there.  I had previously sold at $800 but they weren't processing any wires.  thankfully I got out at all before they went belly up.

My biggest Loss was this year ,few months back ago
Reason: Gambling
Stake: 1.4BTC
Match: Brazil Vs Uruguay(Fifa U-21)
Selection: Brazil

Result: Match was Drawn , and i was so sad but i consolidated my self saying "I play for fun , not for Living"

Wow. Mostly people have only lost because of lots of gambling.  I have never invested in bitcoin since I am only a teenager and still learning about  bitcoin but I think you can still re gain that amount by more investing and you had fun, which was the point dude!

From the majority of posts here, the only big personal losses here are either because of gambling or because of scams. I know a fellow member who's mining hardware caused a fire in the home. I think that could be one of the most weirdest personal losses because of bitcoin lol xD

My biggest loss would have to be the ~994 BTC I gave to BF Labs that I subsequently only ever recovered back half in $ terms, forget about BTC.  That one still smarts.  Smiley  treat them like gold people.

Tired of substandard power distribution in your ASIC setup???   Chris' Custom Cablez will get you sorted out right!  No job too hard so PM me for a quote

over 40BTC on gox and another ~30-50BTC because of amazing preorders in the past, like blackarrow, hashfast, bfl or avalon. after all this mess, I had only paper wallets (and some small portion on electrum) now and I swear to avoid any preorder until end of my life.

guys coming to bitcoin these day don't have idea, how many guys here lost shit of lot BTC, just because it was full of bloody scam. imho now, situation is little bit better, at least there are no HW preorders anymore and community is much smarter and don't believe everything with BTC logo on website..meeh

Gambling is purely based on luck, you have already given the answer that those loss in gambling bound to happen, but you didn't mention how much value you lost, based on that it can be ascertain that your loss is small or big, however couple of weeks before my friend has lost his 0.5 bitcoin while trading with untrusted partner.

I do not gamble , so I was safe from such losses however I'am investing on few projects on Securities , one of them turned up to be a scam (not the manager of the project) but the seller who was supposed to sell us his service . however we are trying to get up on our feets and that's just 60$ Grin so nothing big .

I lost 0.2 on Auroracoin. Do you remember the hipe? I didn't bought on the top but expected it to go up once more. So I still have 210 of them.
Also lost 1500$ on Mtgox. I was stupid and sent them to the site in the last days to buy 12 cheap bitcoins. And then one day the page turned into beautiful white color...

Go get a job instead of wasting ur time with scams

My biggest bitcoin loss was 30 btc when I bought an altcoin for 1 btc then it went up to 42 btc but I sold at 12, so although I had won 11 I had technically lost 30, that was my most stupidest mistake, hence I don't trade now, I only collect coins instead lol.  Angry

Our coin qibuck also lost 15 btc to a scammy Dev, that hurt us a lot as a group..took me ages to recover emotionally and monetarily still trying to cope..

Back in early 2010 my Bitcoin Sifu gave me 100 coins. They were stolen along with my laptop in SBGL (Galeão International Airport).  Angry
Most likely they whipped the HD and sold it for a few Reales.  Undecided

I am not sure if I am putting this in the right section.

Anyway, what are some of your guys biggest bitcoin losses?  Did many people here loss everything with Mtcox?  For me it is online casinos.  I do have a moderate gambling habit so it was bound to happen.  Cry

I lost bitcoin trying to earn some. Concretely I paid some bitcoin to buy hash power in a cloud mining site. I had earnings for two weeks and then bought again hash power (big error because I must earn firstly the bitcoin that has spent) and that week the cloud mining site was hacked (that's the story the owners told) and all my bitcoin get lost.
