Yes, this is a new thread for CatCoin.  The creator of the 0.9.1.1 thread will be occupied with other things in their life for a while, so we started this new one so we can continue being able to update the OP etc.

Let's keep this CAT purring and happy!

The new code triggers at block 46331.  ...  1297 blocks to go...  9 days to go...  Approximately 20th July  /edit...   gah... approx 5/6 Aug   edit/

All of the info in the OP is current.  All pools and block explorers have upgraded to V9.2.0.

Cryptsy is in maintenance - they're upgrading to V9.2.0 as we speak.  Please do not send coins to or from Cryptsy until they finish their upgrade and we risk our coins to test.

It's time for CAT to shine!

Hey All,

If anyone of you was on Hashnova mining for CAT you may have noticed that Hashnova was using the wrong height. I have been following the previous thread closely and updated the client accordingly and was thinking why, it seemed that I was connected to older clients for (any valid reason) and those didn't have the new blocks. (Bug?).

Solution was that I opened up the firewall and made Hashnova to a catnode and clients with the right height connected to me! Wee!
addnode=node.hashnova.com:9933

I am sorry if any of you that was mining on Hashnova was encountering any problems or lack in finding blocks because of this. I wish I could have seen this a lot quicker than I did. Any ideas how to?

The Catcoin pool can still be found here:
https://pool.hashnova.com/pools/Catcoin/CAT/

Running on client:
https://github.com/CatcoinOfficial/CatcoinRelease

Any questions? Feel free to contact me.

Cheers,
David

New Berkeley DB version used. Please backup your wallet.dat before upgrading and clear the folder in Application Support. No news yet from Cryptsy.  They won't say where we are in the queue or when they expect to get us updated.

Based on the earlier experiences with Cryptsy, we expect them to take 2-3 weeks.  Three weeks will be July 16th.

These are the tickets we know to be open:

Ticket ID - 193353  25th June  (V9.2.0 upgrade)
Ticket ID - 195252    7th July  (Any progress on 192253?)

Ticket ID - 194673 7th July  (Deposit not credited - Taiga)
Ticket ID - 195687 9th July  (Deposit not credited - SlimePuppy)

This rapid difficulty increase may well come from my pool, as dedicated operator I have gathered a group of miners to help shake this long block.

It's another long block that is "clogging" up the chain.

Keep mining it'll pop eventually.

We are waiting until block 46331 for the new difficulty algo to take effect.  We are still on the old algo.  Once we hit that block, things should get to a somewhat normal block rate.

Why someone use new version Catcoin:0.9.2.4?
I think 9.2.0 have a bug and wrong chain.

If you rebuild database with   connect=107.170.40.107   you go to main chain.

If you are running anything OTHER than 0.9.2.0, then you are running the WRONG code, and will be feeding into Hozer's unauthorized code against the coin.

107.170.40.107 is Hozer's seed node, which is NOT running OFFICIAL code listed here:

https://github.com/CatcoinOfficial/CatcoinRelease

Current block on the official chain at the time of this post: 45223

That is the current block on the right chain at this time.  The reason your wallet was showing 15 hours behind, earlier today, was because of the super long block.  Since there wasn't a block for about 15 hours at the time of your original post, then it will think that it is behind.  That will happen on any coin that has long blocks.  If you notice now, since you just found the block on Geekhash, your wallet should show synced up.

After we finally hit block 46331, that is when the new difficulty algo will kick in, and we should not have these super long blocks any more.  We were hoping to hit that block today or tomorrow, but since the difficulty on the old algo went nuts, it left us with a super high difficulty, and slowed down the actual block finding, so we got pushed back at least 3 - 4 days worth of blocks.

Make a backup of your wallet directory, and delete everything in it except for wallet.dat, and then re-sync.  Make sure you do NOT have that connect= or addnode= with the IP address listed, as that node is using the WRONG blockchain.

On which chain yours wallet, depend on connections to one or other chain. Which more connections that winner.
I use maxconnections=5
and
addnode=107.170.40.107 - 45643
addnode=62.210.254.171 - 45643
addnode=146.0.32.101     - 45643
addnode=98.115.147.74   - 45224
addnode=108.61.10.90    - 45224

On which chain yours wallet, depend on connections to one or other chain. Which more connections that winner.
I use maxconnections=5
and
addnode=107.170.40.107 - 45643
addnode=62.210.254.171 - 45643
addnode=146.0.32.101     - 45643
addnode=98.115.147.74   - 45224
addnode=108.61.10.90    - 45224

if I add connections with 45224 my wallet switch to new blockchain, but I lost many coins.

In my opinion 45224 - wrong chain.

You will have to talk to Hozer on your lost coins then.  As he is "A single entity" that is causing that fork in the chain, against "A community of many" on the official chain.

Good luck getting your coins to work with his chain.

And the block is popped :-)

/Bejjan
Thanks much Bejjan and miners!

I just returned from a few days away from home and my miners were off-line.  I expected us to still be hung up this evening - but when I returned I see that we're back down from space.

Thanks CATs!

Good luck indeed.

To be very accurate:  the chain 'vampirus' is mining isn't a 'fork' from Catcoin - it's a completely separate blockchain with completely different parameters than CATcoin.  It is a completely separate coin that is using our graphics, port, and name.  It is not CAT, it is run by a single entity that has proven himself to be a thief, and  is NOT in any way CAT.  Anyone mining there is not generating CAT - they're generating Hozer's 'copycat' coin.

wallet fully syncs:)
but still missing coins
................

not yet redeemed. any idea why?

Your link is infected.
Nothing wrong with the link.  The virus scanner is likely keying on the character string for the TxID and comparing it to its signature database.  That's happened before with coins.

Sorry for the block explorer hang-up today - I checked it last night and it was up and running normally.  I've been traveling all day today and couldn't check the site until I returned.  It's running fine and is absolutely not infected with anything.  My Kaspersky scans are clean, and the server logs are clean.

seriusly this coin is broken. not getting any coins in my wallet (latest ver) and its stuck on synchronizing (15hrs behind atm bkicj 45207) very weird.
CAT's running fine.  I just opened my wallet and received 4.8 CAT from Bejjan's pool.  Prior to that, I received mined coins from GeekHash on the 16th.

If you didn't get your wallet from http://catcoins.org/ (which links to http://catcoinwallets.com/) or your source from https://github.com/CatcoinOfficial/CatcoinRelease then you are not running CATcode.

Check the block chart at http://catcoinwallets.com/ to see if blocks are flowing normally.  Any wallet will say 'behind' until the next block is found.

We fork into our stable block rate at 46331 and I for one cannot wait.

FYI everyone - this isn't new, unfortunately.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=411527.0

This isn't an official fork.

Someone wants to fork the coin. He's welcome to, but it doesn't have the support of the community.

This is the worst kind of FUD.

Hit the link for context.  News flash:  Hozer's been trying to 'hoze' the chain since just after launch. What we're seeing today is just the latest attempt.

CAT is strong, our community is strong, and unlike too many coins that started well after we did and died, we are still alive and well.

We were made aware this morning that the pools at SmarterHash have been mining CAT for at least three weeks and have not been on the coin's blockchain.  We didn't know they were mining CAT, they didn't contact us, and we do not have them on the list of known-good pools that can be found in the OP or the community sites:

http://catcoins.org/
https://www.reddit.com/r/catcoins/

If you've been mining there, you have not been mining CAT.  We advise that you stop mining there until further notice.

We are working with the folks at SmarterHash to bring them into the community.  When they're on-track, we'll add them to the pool lists.

Andy

edit... Jeff from 'smarterhash' refuses to connect to the main network and acknowledges that his pool has been mining their own fork.  Instead of fixing the problem, he's decided to shut-down his CAT mining node.  SmarterHash will not be included in our pool list.

All Righty CATs - we've been working on Bittrex to add CAT to their exchange.  They want to hear from the community before they accept us.  Feel free to request CAT at Bittrex here:

https://bittrex.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/202583854-Submitting-a-Coin-to-Bittrex-Updated-07-20-15

We've already submitted all the info they need - source, links, threads, community, etc.  All you have to do, if you want CAT on Bittrex, is to open a support ticket and demand CAT.

We've never been de-listed - the two other exchanges we've been on from the start closed their doors and/or were hacked into bankruptcy.

If you prefer another exchange, please link it as well!

Vampirus - there is only one CAT network.  The current block is 45268.

Any coin network's hash rate numbers are estimates based on how fast or slow previous blocks were solved.  It is impossible to know the actual network hash rate.

If you have the seed nodes from the OP in your catcoin.conf then you should be on the network with either client.  I maintain a seed node and build/test windows and linux wallets - I have absolutely no problem syncing with V9.1.1 or V9.2.0 on either operating system.  Note the info from the Mac wallet build - the wallet compiled, ran, connected to the CAT network, and fully synchronized within minutes.

Yes - there are a number of ways to calculate a hash rate - but it is still an estimate based on the previous block difficulty and the time it took to solve that block.  Because there is no way to know who is mining the network, and because of the random nature of block generation, this is only a very crude estimate.

Yes - we knew that the difficulty would jump around.  We've been here before and it's ok.  Block generation will be slower than normal until we hit the block, but CAT's block generation has been off since launch.  The minimum block time was a kludge to help after a flaw in the algo was identified, and was only necessary when the network hash rate is very low.  The new code is a result of 18 months of work and doesn't need any cheats.

Yes, it can take more time than planned to get to 46331 but it doesn't have to.  It depends on us miners.  All of my 33MH/s are crunching CAT, and I've just bought another 15 MH/s that'll be on-line in a couple of days.  The only way we're going to get to a stable CAT is to mine to the fork.

There hashrate distributed to CAT via my pool is quite high at times, as you can see per the last 120 blocks found by the pool.

https://pool.bejjan.net/pool/CAT

Version 0.9.2.0

Note: The page says it's synching but you can see that it remains on the correct blockheight, the sync indicator is at fault as it is reading from the peerlist and selects the highest startingheight, will be fixed when i find the time Wink

Ok everyone - I did some wallet experiments today.

I backed-up my personal Windows wallet.dat and did sets of before/after tests with 9.1.1 and 9.2.0 wallets, with and without catcoin.conf and addnodes.  Keep in mind that the 9.1.1 wallet does have the 30 second minimum block time code while the 9.2.0 wallet does not (even before the fork block).

A brand new 9.1.1 wallet with NO catcoin.conf, no addnodes, and no peer.dat will not automatically join the CAT network.  It will take more than 30 minutes to sync on the copycat chain.
A brand new 9.1.1 wallet with a catcoin.conf and addnodes will not automatically join the CAT network.  It will take more than 30 minutes to sync on the copycat chain.
A brand new 9.1.1 wallet with an existing peer file will join the CAT network and will sync within seconds.

A brand new 9.2.0 wallet with NO catcoin.conf, no addnodes, and no peer.dat WILL automatically join the CAT network and will fully sync in minutes.
A brand new 9.2.0 wallet with a catcoin.conf  will also automatically join the CAT network and will fully sync in minutes.

Updating to V9.2.0 is a mandatory upgrade, CATs - it takes us to a fully-inclusive network that generates regular 8-12 minute blocks.  For the first time since launch in Dec 2013 we will have regular blocks regardless of the network hash rate after our fork at block 46331.

Let me say, why I believe that "copycat" is main chain.
My 9.1.1 wallet was online about 2 month and I mine CAT on my own server.
3 day ago I found, that we have 2 CAT chain.
You change code that affect on blockchain before block 46331, that was advertised as hardfork.
First time 9.1.1 and 9.2.0 version accept all blocks. First block, that was found before 30 sec gap
was accepted in 9.2.0 version and rejected in 9.1.1 wallet. CAT split into 2 different chains.
If Cryptsy accept version 9.2.0 I lost 7600 CAT mined in official 9.1.1 version and before advertised hardfork block.

Well, the "30 second minimum" has been a BIG issue since we put it up, just to fix the other cludge.  It probably should have been kept in until the actual fork block, but I will admit, there was a slight oversight in the code, and it was removed before the hard fork block coming up.  That oversight HAS caused this last fork.  But again, with it removed, we are NOT limited to being denied legit blocks, just because they are "before 30 seconds".  Or as Hozer's wants, "3 MINUTES".

I do take FULL responsibility for approving the code to completely remove the 30 second minimum code for 0.9.2.0.  So, again, we leave it up to the community ... do you want to be rejected "VALID" blocks because they are not at least 3 minutes past the last block, or would you like to be credited the legitimate block you have earned, even if it is way less than the 3 MINUTES after the last block was found that Hozer's coin wants to enforce.

Edit:

Totally impossible to mine 152 blocks within the last 24 - 48  hour period of time, BY YOURSELF, unless you have 10GH worth of Scrypt to push towards it.  The fork did not happen until after 07-20-2015.

If Cryptsy accept version 9.2.0 I lost 7600 CAT mined in official 9.1.1 version and before advertised hardfork block.
Let's take this apart.

If you mined the CAT blockchain with any official wallet prior to the release of V9.2.0, then you have CAT.

If you mined any fork (including hozer's intentional copycat fork) prior to the release of V9.2.0, then you did not mine CAT.  This is not a result of a code error or dev team decision - this is a basic function of the entire cryptcoin system - soft forks happen regularly and the line with more proof of work is the 'real' chain while the rest are orphaned.

If you continued to use V9.1.1 after the release of V9.2.0 - a MANDATORY upgrade - then you mined CAT.

If you continued to use V9.1.1 after the release of V9.2.0 on Hozer's copycat fork, then you didn't mine CAT.

If you have any questions about whether you mined CAT or not, the truth is in the blockchain and the explorer:
http://catcoinwallets.com:2750/chain/Catcoin

You can tell that you have CAT if you can find your transactions on the explorer and it shows a full history from generation.
If you mined on Hozer's fork, then you will not see coin generation on the CAT network.  You will have to go to him for compensation.  Since you intentionally used addnodes to hozer's network, you intentionally abandoned any opportunity to mine CAT.  Maybe Hozer will start a copycat-CAT exchange service for the folks he scammed.

On which chain yours wallet, depend on connections to one or other chain. Which more connections that winner.
I use maxconnections=5
and
addnode=107.170.40.107 - 45643
addnode=62.210.254.171 - 45643
addnode=146.0.32.101     - 45643
addnode=98.115.147.74   - 45224
addnode=108.61.10.90    - 45224

if I add connections with 45224 my wallet switch to new blockchain, but I lost many coins.
Therefore I will support old 45643 chain.
In my opinion 45224 - wrong chain.

I do take FULL responsibility for approving the code to completely remove the 30 second minimum code for 0.9.2.0.
I take full responsibility for removing all of Hozer's code from CAT - including the 30 second minimum.  I also worked to re-align (update) our codebase with current LTC - which is the source for the original CAT code when launched in 2013 by KR105.

The community made clear that they did NOT want block restrictions.  The current code does not need artificial restrictions.  The post fork code certainly doesn't need any such kludges.

CAT has been forking since launch - most either unintentional or as a result of the environment evolving faster than we have - and that's been happening both with and without artificial time limits.  For these reasons, the Dev team worked to bring the community a CAT that finally works.  Mine to the fork and watch CAT run!

Hi,

Here you have a working addnode for 0.9.2 from hashnova. Even me I have started banning wrong clients through firewall.

addnode=node.hashnova.com:9933

I'll pay a 100 CAT bounty for the miner that breaks this block --> 45276.

Who's ready to join us digging?

I'm digging, but I don't need the bounty ;-)

I mined lost blocks 10-13 July in version 9.1.1 without adding any addnode.
I add  maxconnections=5
and
addnode=107.170.40.107 - 45643
addnode=62.210.254.171 - 45643
addnode=146.0.32.101     - 45643
addnode=98.115.147.74   - 45224
addnode=108.61.10.90    - 45224
only in version 9.2.0 20 July for experiment.

I can't choose on which chain my wallet.
Client connect automatically to 8 nodes with minimum ping.

Here is where you are very, very wrong.  When you intentionally connect to nodes that are NOT on the CAT network then you are NOT mining CAT and you ARE choosing the chain for your wallet.

vampirus - this is at least the third time you are being told this:

YOU ARE INTENTIONALLY CONNECTING TO A FORK THAT IS NOT ON THE CAT NETWORK.  NOT A SINGLE ONE OF YOUR 'ADDNODE's IS ON THE CAT NETWORK.

What you are doing is exactly like mining UNO and complaining that you're not seeing DOGE transactions in your UNO wallet.

If you want to work with CAT, then download the proper wallet and it will connect to the CAT network.  If you don't, then I hope you find a community that caters to your desires.

I repeat second time: I am not connecting to the fork. This addnode was added for testing only 3 day ago.
By the way blockchain split after block 44226 - 2015-06-30
Block 44227 was time wrapped and rejected in real 9.1.1 blockchain, but accepted in 9.2.0 bugged version.

What wallet are you using and what block is it on?  If you have nodes in your catcoin.conf, what are they?

I used 9.1.1 version and no addnode in config
since 3 day ago I use 9.2.0 version (and 9.1.1 for testing)
I sometimes check block count on coinwarz.com

And  9.1.1 version with empty database, never connect to 9.2.0 chain, it stuck on block 44226

There is NO CATCoin V9.2.2.  You are NOT using a CAT wallet and thus are NOT mining CAT.

Coinwarz is not yet updated and therefore the info you find there is NOT CORRECT.

The current wallet for the CAT network is Version "Satoshi 0.9.2.0" and it is linked in the OP.

Yes, we are aware that Hozer/catcoiner/tmagik/TechnoMagik has fake code and fake nodes.  He has a 'catoshi 9.3.2', a 'catcoin 0.9.2.4' client in addition to the 9.2.2 you are using.  You are using fake code that is not CAT, you are working on a blockchain that is not CAT and thus you should take your concerns to one of Hozer's threads or IRC channels.

Dude - the point you keep missing is that we are INTENTIONALLY forking this code to a new difficulty algo to fix the network once and for all.  We KNOW we're forking.  We KNOW we removed the 30 second minimum kludge.  We KNOW we removed at least two other code weaknesses.  It's not a 'bug' or a 'fault' or an 'error' - we expected the soft-fork as well!  And if you read up a few posts (and the OP, and posts in the previous threads) then you know full well that we've been working on this update for the past year.  The bug is in the current PID code which was deployed with 9.1.1 and that's the bug that's being exploited today to drive our difficulty high.  That STOPS at block 46331.

If you are using V9.2.0 then you are on the correct code, on the real CAT network, and all of your coins are safe.

If you still think you lost coins because of the soft fork from a few days ago, then please provide mining and/or transaction info and we'll dig into it.  If you intentionally mined hozer's attack fork, then you're on your own.  But if you unintentionally fell off the CAT network as a result of the soft fork before upgrading to V9.2.0, then we'll work with you.

I lost block mined in version 9.1.1
I do not knew about version 9.2.0 a weak ago and I do not know about 'hozer'.
Before advertised hardfork block, new and old version must be work with same parameters.
But you change code that accept timewrapped 44227 block and create new blockchain,
different from main 9.1.1 chain before 46331 block. It is yours fault.

9psk417ZEveQhFYLR13YaCdSV2NWr8oCSi
 115 blocks from 10 to 13 July.
All other was  before split and send to Cryptsy, or 2 days ago when I already know about 2 blockchain.

Please provide information on the pool you were mining on and any transaction IDs for the payouts.

We keep asking you to provide TX info for the blocks and/or coins you claim to have lost.  You have not provided any proof.

If you look at the blocks generated on the CAT network from 10-13 July, you can see all that exist.  Your address has none of them.  If you generated blocks or coins in that window - before the network soft fork - then you were not mining on the CAT network and therefore did not lose any CAT.

If you think this is an error, feel free to provide details of the blocks and/or coins you say you generated.

Since you claim that you mined them locally, you should be able to either open up the GUI wallet you mined to, or run a catcoind command, and get similar to the following output

    {
        "account" : "geekhash",
        "address" : "9ajxzdpWajzYKYyKRmDPJoKiw66VqVeHbF",
        "category" : "immature",

        "timereceived" : 1437585106
    },

The command to produce output like that, is: catcoind listtransactions (or if in the GUI, open the debug console and just type: listtransactoins)

I think there is a way to put that all in a window, using the code block command here in the forums.

What block numbers are the ones that are in question?  The very first one is in both forks.

(Testing the code function)

Code:
getblock d6ee11376d8a4de662c3cdfa6bebd3130fbb22c25d80be0f0f93b045e4351938
{

    "confirmations" : 0,
    "size" : 205,

Edit: Yes, the code command works.  If you don't mind, go back and edit your two posts to add to the [ code ] and [ / code ] text (without spaces), so everyone else won't have to scroll for days hehe.

Thanks for adding the code blocks around the text. Smiley

I will run all these through both chains, and go from there.

Yes, I was on main chain, but those who run 9.2.0 wallet go to different chain. But I stay on same chain.
Lost 115 blocks start from 44544 (number in "copycat" chain)

Fellow CATs - these six addresses are the only users seen on one of our seed nodes that are still running V9.1.1 wallets.
Check your IP address and make sure this isn't you.  Cool

Code:
50.254.61.142
146.0.32.101
204.11.237.233
73.209.31.57

86.18.76.197

If you don't know your IP this'll tell you:

That is not by far, a complete list if who is on 9.1.1 still.  That is only from the one seed node. Smiley

Code for the next wallet update is already in process.

The next wallet will include code required to use OpenSSL since 1.0.1k (BIP66), and that code is already in place on a testnet-ready codebase.

We're reviewing code throughout the wider community as well to make sure we're incorporating the best security and process solutions.

A few folks have asked about the coin branding - not everyone likes the orange cat and prefers the earlier grey cat.  In conjunction with the next code release, should we review the coin image and branding?

Also - our intent from the beginning of CAT was to provide a way for people to support cat charities, shelters, and animal rescue services.  Any thoughts or suggestions from anyone on how we should select our first project to support?

RPC port is 9332 and not the rpcport=7000 Right?Huh??

The default "regular" port that each node talks to, is 9933. (or 19933 for testnet)

The default RPC port is 9932. (or 19932 for testnet). (I just dug to verify, and the help output shows it as 9332).  We will fix that on the next release, as this is leftover from the original devs.
The output showing 9332 is ONLY in the output of the --help.  In code it is actually 9932.

You can also specify what port you want in your config file with:
rpcport=xxxxx

CAT Stratum for GeekHash is back up.  (Was kind of a pebkac error on my part.  D'oh!)

All righty...we're back down from space.

We'll continue to manage the dips by taking as much mining off during the dips as we can.  That'll help keep blocks flowing to the fork.

We keep nudging Cryptsy but so far there's no communication other than a '1st level tech' message along the lines of 'thanks for your message - we'll pass it to our technician'.  They're taking much, much longer than normal and customer service is...well...in character.  More news when we've got some to share.

If anyone knows of a pool or utility or site that is not yet updated, please post - along with a CAT address - the 50 CAT reward still stands.

not yet redeemed. any idea why?

Wolverine was one of our community that was sucked into the fork by the folks at smarterhash.  The coins he mined while at that pool were from hozer's fork, not from the CAT chain.  As it wasn't his fault that he got screwed over, I reimbursed him for his mining from my personally mined coins.

We're happy to have you in the community, Wolverine - thanks for your patience through the slow blocks!

It's pretty clear that 'vampirus' is a new alias for hozer.  He hasn't mined any CAT blocks, isn't missing any CAT, and insists on promoting a fork only he is mining on.  Promoting his attack fork violates forum rules.

That's normal - pools still wait for 120 confirms.  Our block time is still all over the place, but this is expected.  We choose to take some volatility before the fork instead of arbitrarily censoring blocks with time limits.  All of this disappears at the fork.

42 more blocks until the first block you were mining on, will be at the 120 confirms, then it will be available for withdraw.

Andy

To submit a request:    https://bittrex.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

After you do, post a CAT address.  Wink

Got reply from btitrex

Thanks for the request. Our policy is to not comment on whether we will launch coins but we mainly add coins due to community demand.

We gauge demand based off of tweets, hash power, length of bitcointalk thread, volume on other exchanges, etc. Follow us on twitter @bittrexexchange and tweet about how much you like this coin and Bittrex. We respond to creative and insightful posts to help market your favorite coins and Bittrex. I'd also consider coming to our irc channel #bittrex on irc.freenode.net and do some guerrilla marketing. The traders there can help you gain exposure for your coin.

Any news on cryptsy and getting the wallet sorted or is that due to be done after the ~ 19th / 20th?

Nothing yet, Taiga, since my update on the 25th.  It's been more than a month now - ticket opened on the 25th of June.  We're poking Cryptsy every other day but still nothing more than a 1st level tech response.  We've PMd them here and hung in their IRC channel - still nothing.

It's up to us, CATs.  If we work together, we can be at the fork in about 4 days.  If keep going as we are, it'll be almost 4 weeks.

The best way to manage this is to mine the high diffs and stop mining the dip.  Slowing the dip keeps us from bouncing.  Once we're somewhat level, then we can add all the hash we want and sprint to the fork.  Once we're there, it won't matter much how much hash we have on the network because the network will finally 'just work'.

I've got all of my scrypt capability on CAT 24/7 - 3x Black Widow and 2 Fury - and have a rig leased.  I think Blak's been doing the same.  I know some others are mining as well - but we can't do it alone.

It's time - we can get to this fork and have a coin that works or we can lose the blockchain to our attackers.  It's up to us.

Beautiful job, CATs!

We eased down to 24.6 and are gently coming back up through 30 to 35.8.  It doesn't look like we got hit at the dip - it looks great!

So...feel free to ease in your miners if you so desire - we should be set up for another 24 hours of smooth, regular block generation.

Thanks everyone!

Bring on Block 46331!

A reminder for the new CATs - this is not our final difficulty adjust algo.  That will switch in at block 46331.

At the fork, we'll have an algo that'll handle high and low hash smoothly.  It adjusts up regularly to stop 'insta-mining' when pools switch in, and it eases down reliably without hanging when diff drops.  It does a good job of keeping us in an 8-12 minute block average with high or low network hash rates.

In the process of testing, we tried various combinations of 'input filters' for PID, various tweaks for PID, as well as Dark Gravity Wave 2 and 3, Digishield with 1- and 3-block retargeting, and combinations.  What worked best is the release combination of Digishield and PID with a 1 block retarget.  It gave us the best combination of difficulty adjustment in varying conditions while rejecting various strategies of time-warp attacks.

Prior to testing the various difficulty adjust methods, we removed the earlier kludges and experimental code and re-aligned the codebase with the current LTC release, which is where KR105 pulled the original CAT code.  There have been a number of security updates and various dependency updates since our launch that we're happy to have.

We look forward to showing you that the past year of catnaps was worth it.

719 blocks to go...

It's time - we can get to this fork and have a coin that works or we can lose the blockchain to our attackers.  It's up to us.

Looks like a cool coin and very active but obviously some drama. Can you or somebody briefly summarize the drama in one post? Thanks.
The main drama from launch is that the original dev team deployed a coin that wasn't capable of living in an environment with large amounts of hash and with profit-oriented switch pools (something nearly every coin launched since BTC has to solve).  The battle since has been devising and deploying methods for adjusting the difficulty that work, while also building a dev team from scratch and rebuilding the coin's network infrastructure and a proper testnet.  On the code side, we didn't want artificial block lengths (30 second or 3 minutes or any other combination) and didn't want to go to merged mining.  We think we have a unique solution that will work regardless of the network hash rate.

The PID process deployed in V9.1.1 wasn't expected to be a 100% solution, but it has a fatal flaw that when the hash rate is too slow a large miner/pool can hit the network and cause the diff to climb too high too fast (that's the 'galloping' you can see on the network chart).  While not a good situation, it's been better than any previous attempt, and it gave us the time to develop and fully test a solution which we think will become beautifully apparent when we hit block 46331.

During this 'interesting' ~18 month period, we also found that one gent on the dev team was more interested in his own profit than on the entire CAT community and after causing severe damage to the project multiple times (including multiple forks) he was ejected from the team and community.  He's not happy about this, and has deployed his own sock-puppet FUD brigade and highly-modified coinds to harm CAT rather than take his mad coding skillz to make his own coin.  We know him as 'hozer', 'catcoiner', 'Buy', 'tmagik', 'technomagik', 'Troy Benjegerdes', and quite probably 'vampirus'; and know his code (which caused a parallel (and incompatible) block chain well before we deployed V9.2.0) as 'catoshi' or 'catcoin' clients rather than our 'satoshi 9.2.0' clients.

In the process of building the V9.2.0 client and new difficulty system, we also removed all of hozer's code and also updated the code base with security fixes and developments in the parent LTC code that were fielded after CAT launched.  All of our pools, all of our infrastructure, and more than 80% of the clients seen on the network are running the current V9.2.0 code and our network is rock-solid.  We did, however, cause a condition that would have normally created a simple fork for those that continue to run the earlier 9.1.1 code (which had a kludge of a 30 second minimum block time) that would have disappeared as the rest of the community moved to the new code - but hozer was happy to continue to mine his own fork as part of his FUD campaign, and he merged his older fork with our new soft fork.  That's the piece that 'vampirus' either doesn't yet understand or is trying to twist.  It's really important to note that while the 9.1.1 client will 'technically' join the parallel fork, there is only one entity mining that (hozer) and there are zero CAT transactions there, and all of the nodes on that fork are firewalled into the obscurity they deserve.  If you are interested in understanding this more fully, feel free to hit the earlier threads as this is fully documented.
Launch thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=380130.0
V9.1.1 thread:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=441402.0

The real important parts to hook onto aren't the past two years, but the next - we have a solid team working together for CAT and her community, we have a strong network infrastructure managed by experienced sysadmin/netadmin folks, we have ties and exchanges with multiple other coin projects, we're preparing the next release for testnet now, and we are really looking forward to the community response once we fork into the V9.2.0 code at block 46331...644 blocks to go.

Feel free to connect with us on Freenode #catcoin-dev or #catcoin or ##catcoin and we'll be happy to go into whatever detail you're interested in - we're pretty much there 24/7.

CATs - while we push through to the fork, does anyone have any suggestions for a cat charity we can start with?

I've identified a place here in San Antonio that works with kittens (primarily abandoned and/or kittens that aren't taken to shelter with their mothers) and they do everything from bottle feeding through adulthood and have a network of foster homes with folks trained in caring for tiny kittens.  Once we're through this fork and things are stable, I intend to go back to volunteering there and know they can always use supplies.

These three - Cali, Lulu, and Coco - are rescue kittens from SA Pets Alive:

<many 'overcome by events' words snipped>

All are welcome to post here - but we have no more sense of humour or time to waste with the constant stream of lies that we've tolerated in the past.  While a self-moderated thread "might" cost some new members of the community, the former BS "HAS" cost us valuable members and pool operators.  We have real work to do and not enough time to do it.  I hope you can respect that.

Andy

edit
Bloody hell - hozer's at it again.  'Buy' is yet another alias with a few 'hozer-esque' posts in other threads to look legit on the surface, followed by pasting the same crap here that we've already hashed out in the earlier threads (as well as 'quotes' from earlier posts that have been deleted - can't get more obvious than that...).  I frankly don't give a damn if he doesn't like moderated threads - we're here in this thread at the behest of the BTCTalk moderators because there were sick and tired of everyone reporting Hozer's BS in the other threads.  So tag, I'm 'it' - and I'm happy to take the task.  Out, out, damn hozer and all your sock puppets too.

Folks - as far as I'm concerned, it's open season on Cryptsy.  Feel free to open tickets and ask when they'll have us back running.  I think it's 'squeaky wheel' time.  Don't forget to ping Bittrex either.  We are CAT - hear us roar. Wink

Here's what we have open and what's been happening since 25 June:

Ticket ID - 193353  25th June  (V9.2.0 upgrade)
Ticket ID - 195252  7th July  (Any progress on 192253?)
Ticket ID - 194673  7th July  (Deposit not credited - Taiga)
Ticket ID - 195687  9th July  (Deposit not credited - SlimePuppy)
Ticket ID - 196077 10th July  (link to block explorer - their explorer's still down)
Ticket ID - 198519 24th July  (customer service chat - when will we be up?)
Ticket ID - 198520 24th July  (customer service chat - request to speak to a human. denied.)
Ticket ID - 198548 24th July  (customer service chat - request for update on 196077)
Ticket ID - 199436 30th July  (customer service chat - request for update on all of the above)
Ticket ID - 199451 30th July  (Blaksmith - escalated to 2nd level tech support.)

RE: 196077, 195687, 193353, 194673 Please folks - can you please give us an update on these tickets? It's been more than a month and our community is driving us nuts - they want to trade and you're still down. Please?

Hello Andy,

A ticket from your account has already been created for this issue. We appreciate your patience as we resolve this matter.

Thank you.

Andy

To submit a request:    https://bittrex.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

After you do, post a CAT address.  Wink

Hi dev, what happened wallet, no sync , addnode=167.160.36.82, addnode=173.254.235.58  Huh Angry
Taiga - your wallet should sync easily with no addnodes at all.

It's normal for a wallet not to sync if there's a longer block - check the chart to see.  If the message says you are 1 hour behind, and we have a long block, then the wallet will finish synchronizing on the next block.  We are still having occasional long blocks as we move to the fork at 46331.

Post a CAT address if you want a test transaction.

It's been a fun day of node attacks, fake blocks, and amateurish DoS attempts.  Yet CAT blocks just keep flowing towards 46331.  Life is Good!

Today's block generation rate has been absolutely beautiful!  287 blocks to go - less than 3 days to fork at this rate.

Go CAT go!

Sorry CATs - today's block progress was less than stellar.  Sad  We had two lease management challenges that got us galloping again - and it's been slow work to get it back under control.

In the last 24 hours we only found 94 blocks.  We've still got 166 to go to our fork at 46331.  At today's galloping pace, we should fork sometime late Wednesday or early Thursday.  Hopefully we'll be able to flatten the difficulty chart a bit, get back to crunching about 120 blocks a day, and fork late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Either way, we're almost there.  Please pass the fork...and another bottle of antacids?

It looks like we're settling in on ~10 minute blocks again - and that's a good thing!

We have 84 blocks let to go - looks like Wednesday, 5th Aug is when V9.2.0 activates - block 46331.

I've been reading through (and re-living!) the launch thread these past few days and while it's taken more time than we all expected, this might finally be the solution we all hoped for since December 2013.

Fingers crossed.

BTW - expect a significant announcement before the weekend. Wink

All right CATs - we're here!  It'll take a few more blocks for things to settle in - then we can see if things work in the real world as well as they worked on testnet.

The next phase of this transition is in progress.

As most of you know, it took a fair amount of constant hash rate to keep PID relatively consistent.  It's time now to remove the leases and bring the difficulty back down.

When we did this on testnet, there was always one longish block on the way down before things started to move easily.  As we ease the leases off, we expect some slower than normal block generation.  This should take at least eight hours.

As with anything else, though, it depends on the community - feel free to bring in your '24/7' cat miners if you have them around - let's take this new network for a test drive!

CATs - it looks like we've delivered a difficulty adjust mechanism that successfully stands up to rapid additions of mining.  There are two 'pulses' on the chart that represent the addition of more than 1.7GH/s of hash when our difficulty dropped solidly into the 'very profitable to mine' range - and there was no insta-mining and our difficulty did NOT go to the moon!

Let me repeat that - we resisted more than 10x of hash input from a profit switch pool without giving away CATs and without huge difficulty swings - and we did it without minimum block time kludges, without merged mining, and without using ANY method that any other coin on the street has tried.

The pre-fork leased miners ended about 0500 GMT and as you can see from the chart, we're have some long blocks since.  This morning, as far as I can find, we have ~2.5 MH/s on Bejjan (my two GAW Furys), about 400 KH/s on Hashnova (Blaksmith), and about 18 MH/s on GeekHash (my GAW Black Widow and Blaksmith's Furys).  One thing about crypto that is universal is that we have to have miners on the network to solve blocks.

So - CATs - we've brought you code that's unique in the entire crypto industry and that just might finally be a way to reset the balance of power since the arrival of ASICs and profit-switch pools.

I just restarted my other two Black Widows to pop a couple of blocks and get things moving a bit more quickly, but I can't leave them running 24/7 - it's the hot part of summer here in S Texas and the miners cook in a 105F/40.6C garage.

0601 GMT edit...  Perfect timing - I mined the diff down, we hit the profitable list, and got hit HARD from at least three pools - and only gave up six blocks.  Now we have to mine the diff back down.  The algo works, but we still need some network hash rate.  Even self-driving cars need someone go get in and tell it where to go...  /edit

In other news, we're still beating on Cryptsy - feel free to open tickets and/or customer service complaint chats and let them know that you're disappointed in the 40+ days they've had us off-line.  If a Windows user like me can install *nix, a build environment, and can compile a catcoind in under an hour, there is absolutely no reason why they shouldn't be able to get us running in at least a week!   Roll Eyes Grin

Goodbye, Hozer.
I have deleted the latest BS from Hozer.  I will continue to delete posts from him and all of his sockpuppet aliases unless/until he posts something that doesn't violate the rules of this forum that have been linked to the OP since the start of this thread.  He's been warned multiple times and has violated forum rules sufficiently to result in being banned.  Next post will be forwarded to the forum mods for proper handling.

(Please note that 'vampirus's posts about the status of his wallet and his conscious decision to promote an orphaned fork remain in this thread and have not been edited or deleted, in spite of this being a known alias.)

All right CATs - we've had a steady 100 MH/s on CAT for just over 24 hours.  As you can see, block generation is good, the difficulty adjust is agile, and we have enough computer power to handle what the world sends our way.  That's all we need for a stable CAT now - a few miners with 24/7 contributions.  I've got three GAW Black Widows that crunch 15 MH/s at the machine - we need 7 miners with BWs.  The GAW Fury hashes at about 1.5 Mh/s - we need 67 Furys on the network.  Or any combination of these or other machines.  We're stronger with an assortment of smaller machines rather than a single Innosilicon A2 - we don't want any single points of failure here.

So...CATs...we have a good diff adjust algo now - finally.  We have a full network with solid nodes, proper DNS config, charts, block explorers, etc., that are controlled by the core team so that they can be quickly and easily fixed if something breaks.  Since launch, we haven't always had all of those and we've suffered when things didn't work or when people weren't available.  Mav's words from back in early 2014 still apply:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=380130.msg4399260#msg4399260

Obviously we're always looking for more talent and always open to suggestions and content from the community. We are a democracy, we want suggestions, nominations, content and ideas from everyone on how to make this coin the absolute best it can be. We have some really exciting new ideas that are being discussed as we speak, and as we flesh out the ideas a bit more, we'll bring them to the table for the community to see and vote on. We've created such a large team to diversify our talents and to make it so that no one person has too much influence on the coin. We are absolutely for this community, and want nothing but the best for our coin. Our team is very committed to honesty, integrity and transparency. Our IRC chats are logged and at some point once we get some more infrastructure in place they will be made available for everyone to see.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that we're really excited about this coin as a whole and we really hope that we are able to continue being the absolute best community of all the altcoins.

Long live Catcoin!

We know what we need now - we need CATs to re-connect with other CATs - bring ideas, bring a few miners, keep kicking Cryptsy and Bittrex, and build on the solid foundation the dev team's (finally) delivered.

Thoughts?  Plans?  Insights?  Bring them!

FYI CATs - this is what it took to bring us a couple of long blocks:

(Image courtesy of ispace pools http://ispace.co.uk/coindetails/?coin=cat)

This was about 23 times more than the existing hash rate - and while the difficulty did go up, it is manageable and we didn't have "instamined" blocks - they were earned!

This type of event is moderated when we have regular hash.  That (and our coin price) will be helped when Cryptsy is back.  Have you opened a ticket at Cryptsy today?

I've been sitting back quietly, watching and making sure the code is running as expected, and not waste my time with all the FUD slinging that has been going on.

Here's a little recap:

We released 0.9.2.0, without the 30 second manditory reject code, because it is unethical.
   I personally goofed, as I removed that code that should have stayed in there until after the fork block.  That has caused the major fork between 0.9.1.1 and 0.9.2 "before" the fork block.  This was unintentional, but since code was already alive, and lots of people upgraded at that point, there was no turning back, so we had to just continue with it.

During this time, there was a TON of FUD being thrown from Hozer, and his alts, and anyone who jumped on his band wagon.
   I personally am not going to pin-point who's alt is whos, but there has been digging done by BitcoinTalk staff to show that some of the alts that SlimePuppy listed, ARE Hozers.  All of the known alts have been posting from the same IP address.  The BitcoinTalk staff even listed some others that did not raise red flags for us, as his alts.

Regarding the moderated thread, it is what it is.
   If you are going to try and spread FUD, especially if you are "claiming" that you are "new to any coin", and then come out with some very highly detailed stuff about exploits, and how to implement them, and promote the use of them, even though 99.999% of all the exploits said are all false, then you can expect your post to be removed.  This thread is about getting the REAL community back together, since CAT has had such a VERY rough life since it's beginning.  Also, promoting the use of ANY catcoin that is NOT directly off of the OFFICIAL release, your posts will be removed also!

Since the fork block of 46331:

The 2 new algos with the semi-random picking of which algo is used to solve the next block, is working AWESOME!  We have been hit many times by at least 2 known switch-pools, and the hardest hitting was with a combined hash rate of over 4GH, and there were NO insta-mine blocks, even without the 30 minimum kludge.  Granted, it raised the diff after about 20 min of the switch-pool staying on, but it sure is a hell of a lot better than the old 9.1.1 code of just PID.

Shortly after we hit the fork block, I did a test, and removed the lease that I had control of, to see how it would do.  It didn't do too bad, but still the low hashing gave the switch-pools enough power to raise the diff a bit, but still did fairly well.  It took longer for it to come down, because there was maybe 50MH on the coin combined, to bring it down.  Since then, I have been maintaining a low 100MH lease.  This example shows that all we need is some reliable steady hashers to keep the block count running smoothly.

So, NOW is the time to get in contact with all of your friends that have mining equipment, and get some steady hashing going on!

It is probably going to take the rest of the community to get Cryptsy off their ass, and get their catcoind online, up and running, so we can start focusing on the future of CAT.  Feel free to also contact any other exchanges that you wish to have CAT listed on!  Let's get this community active in a positive way!

ALL of us as a community, can come up with tons of ways that we can use CAT.  Let's start getting those ways thought up and designed!  Let's make this CAT grow!!!!

now we need cryptsy to let us trade cat coin:)
I know, right?!  This miner loves to see miners on CAT - thanks Wolverine!

I can't tell you how disappointed I am about how long this is taking.  I worked with Cryptsy for the past three code updates and the others were complete in under 3 weeks.   Huh  I've got 10 CAT stuck on the way to Cryptsy and 5,658.74317291 that I bought and want off the exchange.   Cry

And yes - it does work.  Ladies, Gentlemen, and CATs, please note that the captain has turned OFF the "no trading" light - you are free to walk about the cabin.

A huge THANK YOU to all the folks that opened tickets, sent email, and made sure Cryptsy understood that CAT still has claws!

what a massive drop in price  Shocked

I'm suspecting that the drop is because Cryptsy took so damn long to sync to the official.  It is going to take people trading back and forth to bring the price back up.

On a side note, we got hit SUPER hard this morning, and left us with a sky-high diff.  I personally have not found which pool / whoever that slammed the coin so hard, but we will be able to pop this block if we all start hashing steadily!

Just a quick update and some random thoughts.

- Coinwarz updated to V9.2.0 some time back.  They updated our status yesterday (that Cryptsy is back) and CAT is again moving around on the profitability list.

- Crypto-Currency Market Capitalizations has us updated http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/catcoin/#markets

- Prohashing has CAT activated on their pool - and we're in 'payout' status only.  This is something we've thought about since just after the launch - having a mining pool that allows mining for anything but pays in CAT.   Cool  Cool as hell, Prohashing - thanks for this!  https://prohashing.com/charts.html

- There is at least one pool in the ecosystem that commands a very significant amount of hash.  We were fine with our relatively low 24/7 hash and a 23x increase, but this was a very large hash input.  I don't think CAT has ever seen that much hash power since the coin was launched!

- As everyone knows, the difficulty must rise fast in response to more hash.  In the past, we've 'given' out plenty of 'almost free' CAT blocks and profit switch algos adjusted over time to switching to CAT when our difficulty dropped below 20.  We expect this new algo and the lack of 'freebies' will lead to more adjustments in pool code.  That should result in a reduction in the severe hits that have been our norm for far too long.

- Right now we are essentially in a relaunch status for CAT.  The difficulty system appears to be working as designed but it'll take a bit more time to know for sure.  We know we still need 24/7 miners, though.  That'll come in time.  Our price is starting to lift off the floor on Cryptsy, and we're off the floor on Coinwarz - nothing wrong with either of those!

- We have another lease on the way to assist in popping the next couple of blocks.  Until it arrives, I have everything that can mine scrypt on the network and invite all other cats to do the same.

Blak and Wolverine have popped the hard blocks - with a peak of 2676 and a share size of >175.4 million.  CAT has climbed up into a redwood and is on her way down.

Overall, we're going in the right direction - and that's a good thing!

Andy

And...we're coming back to Earth.

Unfortunately, my usual lease providers were not available for an 'instant startup' to pop our high blocks faster, so the job was left to Blaksmith and wolverine and their 100 MH/s machines.  I only have ~48MH/s of my own at the moment, and have to manage them carefully as it's 101F outside and 105 in the garage.

The moral of this story?  Community miners are much better than leases.  Our coin code does work - but we can't manufacture blocks out of thin air.  More network hashing minimizes high diff rises and gets us back down more quickly.  Nothing new there at all.  Again - we're in restart/relaunch status, but we're stronger and more stable than we have ever been.

Thanks Cats!

We're moving up the profitability lists again - up around 31 at Coinwarz.  Exchange volume at Cryptsy is up from near-zero to 0.12 BTC.  And there's upward price pressure again.  Good progress!

Now we're #4 on Coinwars - with LTC down at #13.  Wink

edit...  0255 GMT  We're back to 30 - which is a comfortable 'high side of normal difficulty' position for us considering what the recent 'Cryptsy-induced sell-off' did to our value.  Activity is picking up on Cryptsy though.  This isn't a pump and dump coin, and we're not in a sprint.  Smiley

While watching the blocks happening, and making sure everything is running as expected, I kinda whipped this up! (With help of a core github to start with.  Source for the original is on the site)

http://catlisten.geekhash.org/

It shows audibly and visually when blocks and transactions happen on Catcoin 0.9.2.0.

Enjoy!

Well, that was a fun hit...   We got at least 1670 MH/s from a pool we know, and very likely more from a still unknown pool that visits us when we get down to about a 20 difficulty.  The good news is that we only gave up four blocks.  We should be on our way back down once we kill this difficulty 2538 block.

edit...and we're back.  So far so good - we remained profitable to mine throughout - a very nice change.  We never dropped below DOGE at our lowest profitability. Smiley

We're number 4 on Coinwarz as I write this - we're not only profitable to mine, but have an above average exchange rate stability and a steadily increasing value.

Coinmarketcap says our USD value is up 7.85%, while we're up 8.89% relative to BTC.

BIG news for GeekHash mining pool! http://geekhash.org

We now have MERGED MINING!!!! (BETA TESTING)

Mine CAT, and get some DOGE too!

For those mining SHA256 coins, there is also BTC / UNO merged mining.

If you have any other coins that have auxpow that you would like to see added to the merge mined list, let me know, and I will look into adding it!

Hey CATs - we're more than 4680 blocks past the fork and things seem to be moving much, much better than CAT has since she's been born.

What's everyone think?  And what do you want to see next?

Hi,
there are so many DOGE lovers, and where are CAT lovers?
So low market cap.
Thank you for your work. I remember CAT.
Maybe to join forces with MEOW coin?

I have a question.
Estimated CAT inflation or total supply over the next 10 years?

The information is needed for http://alt19.com/19/cryptocurrency.php

Thanks

The parameters for CAT are the same as BTC - 10 minute block target, 21 million total coins, pure POW and no pre-mine.  Yes, we have checkpoints.
