Hello,

I stumbled upon my reputation page today and I see there are two types of trust. What is the difference between trusted and untrusted reputation?

Also, how does one get into the "trust network" ?

Thanks.

Have a browse in the meta forum.

There's an explanation of sorts here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1085086.0

Admission - I don't really have a clue how it works either.

Some people are in the default trust. Like theymos, staff and some members. They showed that they are trustworthy so when they rate someone then this rating is seeable to everyone.

Ratings from persons not in default trust can only be seen when you click on the link to see them.

Oh, and you get into default trust by someone already in default trust adding you. It's some kind of superior trust level on the forum. When default trust members fail then they are losing that pretty fast.

Actually, Default Trust is not seeable by everyone. You can set who is in your trust list, and the user DefaultTrust is automatically added to every account's trust list upon creation. You can create your own trust network by adding people that you trust to the trust list. This will let you see the trust ratings of people you trust.

So people can see official reputation only?

No. You can see any trust you like, so long as you configure your trust list to include people that you trust. Default Trust is added to everyone's trust list to protect newbies from scammers. It includes people that have proven to be trusted in their time on this forum. You can remove Default Trust from your trust list if you want to.

Me neither, I don't really give a shit either. I'm not on here to trade, borrow etc any way. I'm a HODLER & bitcoin enthusiant/investor. I'm here to learn & discuss bitcoin. Some people are too obsessed with trust etc.

Actually the basics aren't that hard. DefaultTrust is actually an account that is managed by theymos and that is depth 0. Several people have been chosen in the past and added under DefaultTrust, i.e. now they are depth 1. This picture should clearly show you who those people are (BadBear, theymos, dooglus, etc.).

Okay so let's say that BadBear trusts used X, and he adds him to his trust list. Since BadBear was depth 1, user X is going to be on depth 2 now; listed under him. If user X adds someone, then they're going to be on depth 3, and so on. Trust ratings left by people on depth 1 and depth 2 are visible by default. Calculating trust scores is something else and I don't feel like getting into that.
A great visualization of the trust network was made by dogie and it could help you understand.
