Here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=112543.0 BFL_Josh writes: "... that Bitcoin Talk community would nominate and accept as credible, verifiable individuals to be flown here to KC sometime around the end of October/Beginning of November time frame to see our facility, inspect the manufacturing equipment and test out the devices." My conclusion: BFL will not make the scheduled shipment plans. Why else would they offer to show their facility to dedicated people October/November? If they would ship on time, this step wouldn't be necessary - because the forums would be full with posts like "YES!!!!!!!!!! IT WORKS!!!!!!!!" etc.

I think so. I think they might feel a little pressure when Dr.Zhang began to accept pre-order for his Avalon.

The forums is already full of posts of "Yes, it works" for the FPGA singles and mini rigs, That hasn't satisfied all the nay sayers, I think an office visit is a great idea.

ASIC is also something different, than the FPGAs...
Another round.... soon we will see, who will really supply it.

Quote from Bitcoin Magazine (October 19th 2012): "Butterfly Labs promises to release more information in the coming weeks, and with the November/December ship date rapidly approaching, eager customers and those watching from the sidelines do not have very much longer to wait." (Source: http://bitcoinmagazine.net/butterfly-labs-releases-more-asic-photos/) 1) So now we've gone from shipping in the coming weeks to "promises to release more information in the coming weeks" ?!?! 2) "... and with the November/ December ship date rapidly approaching ..." December? Well that's new - at least for me.

They don't even know when they will ship. Their own website says 3 different things depending on what page your reading. http://www.butterflylabs.com/products/Performance: 4.5, 60 & 1,500 GH/s The BitForce SC chip is now in final stage development. Initial product delivery is scheduled for November. See the SC FAQ and release Notes for policy information. Read the Press Release. http://www.butterflylabs.com/bitforce-sc-release-notes/So will the BitForce SC product line REALLY come out in October? This is a fair question. Let's review our track record. If you're not aware, our initial product, the BitForce Single had a slow delivery cycle. This was initially due to a last minute design change before initial product release. When we did release it, we weren't quite prepared for the explosive success we had. After several rounds of scaling, single delivery is in sufficient volume to catch up quickly. The Mini Rig product release has followed it's development and release timeline pretty well. Initial deliveries aren't far from estimates and the speed of production is on pace to ensure most customers will get their Mini Rigs ahead of schedule. The SC product line has been under development for quite some time and is not the result of an expedited development process. Although there are always issues during development, our team is highly experienced in exactly this field and we're currently ahead of our original timeline. Honest Abe, we're scheduling shipments for October of 2012. http://www.butterflylabs.com/faq/We plan on shipping the ASIC versions of our products by the end of October or early November, depending on quantity of units available. Please see the FAQ with regards to 1/3 shipping plan.

First it was Oct, then Nov and now Dec. If Tom is able to deliver end of Nov the BFL per-order customer are screwed. If this Dec news is true my estimation is, that customers will not see any BFL ASIC product in 2012.

Q1 2013 are my expectations for any ASIC product. Keep your hopes realistic so you are surprised if anything occurs before.

"November / December" could also mean a November shipment and December shipment.
BFL has already said the first batch are NOT being assembled on their new equipment. So a bump from October to November makes sense. Especially if they are trying to release a large quantity of units in the first batch. Then once the headache of the initial release is complete the next batch (first assembled with new equipment) can be assembled and sent out in a December shipment.
The pressure of releasing a large quantity of units to the initial investors and a follow-up shipment ASAP is probably weighty. There are A LOT of orders to get out and get out fast in order to balance the power among the mining community.

In terms of fab for the FPGA, did BFL solder everything together themselves? Or did they ship each individual part to the PCB fabricator and have them assemble it? Or was there another party that combined everything?

They did not solder everything. They just assemble the board, heatsink, fans, and case together. It's not clear to me if the PCB fabricator makes the boards or a third party, but if I had to guess, third party.

If a gambler were to bet on both of the favorite horses to win, then the gambler would win either way. Yep. I have preorders for both BFL and bASIC for roughly equal amounts of USD. I don't really care which company releases first. I would have put money down on some Avalon as well if their pre-ordering process wasn't so fucked up.
