Hey Miners - Decided to upgrade my S5s (I have 12 of them now) to the new firmware off the antminer site (https://bitmaintech.com/support.htm?pid=00720150101032800325X8cMcY2y068F) of 2015-07-15. It adds some fan control updates (like being able to override to custom fan speeds) and fixed some of the overload protection issues that occurred before. I noticed though that on about half my miners, it caused issues.

On 7 of them, the update went smoothly. The firmware installed, the fan controls were there and the miner roared back to full speed. On the others, the same issue seemed to occur on all, in that they were suddenly mining at about half speed (400-500GH/s for the most part), yet all the hash boards seemed fine. Additionally, the alarm for temp was freaking out constantly, yet all the miners were in the 50C to 65C range. I ended up rolling these back to the 20150415 firmware and they are back to normal.

Anyone else have these issues with the upgrade?

Denis

I had this error with three Miner. But only with  those,  that not working with   original fans- water cooled S5 miners.

I had the same problems, I 4x antminer s5, and with the new firmware and a continuous sound of beep beep, and the speed does not exceed 10 gh / s, I went straight back to the previous firmware.

tested the nre firmware on 10xs5 and my problem was that i cannot OC my miners they stucked at 200MHZ so you should check your OC because i think there is one of the problems.

Best solution is to get out the blue wire because that is the fan control speed if you get it out your fan will go on full speed.

That is a fan controller, you have 5 channels to connect fans and you can then control each one of them individually.

Good to hear. Can you elaborate on what you mean by decreased load? Thanks

firmware bitmain is suck

Is that thing really worth it i was thinking of buying one like it to play with .

as for this Firmware I guess I 'm just lucky i updated to it no more over heating for me when the  internet drops out and all my S5 run cooler at stock setting with two fans per miner, and give it a few days or so  one of the DEV of CGMINER (kano) Is fixing it now but it should have CGMINER 4.9.2 not 4.8.0 . with a lot of the S 3 stuff he just did for the S3 from a big donation from one of the forums member .

NM sigh up til now they all worked great after i made that post one of my S5 speed started dropping then for no reason at all one blade just stopped and displayed all ---------- were 000000 should be .so i have to  eat what I said hour ago and why it took this many days for that S5 speed to drop no idea , i went back to the Firmware i was using no issue now so far.

my  other 3 S5's may do the same thing a few days.

I decided to give it a shot on one of my S5's, but the logic of their "Customize the fan speed percentage" escapes me.  It has a checkbox to the left and a percentage to the right of the edit box, so my assumption is you'd put a value from 0-100 inside the edit box.  So I tried 75% first, and the fan RPM's reported at 4080, basically full speed I believe.  Then I tried 50%, and it reported 3600 RPM - then 25% and it reports 2760 RPM - then 10% and it reports 2520 RPM... It's almost like it's adjust something that's logarithmic, like maybe the duty cycle of the fan, instead of the percentage of the actual RPM.  Anyone have any insight into this?

One other thing worth noting on this is that if the fan RPM speed is 0, then it doesn't hash at all - I originally had the fan rewired to be direct from the PSU, so when I flashed the new firmware I didn't get any hashing.  On a hunch I reconnected the fan and it was back in business - so at very least, it now takes some action if the fan stops (and I've had one fan die on me but I luckily was by the unit when it happen, so this is a great addition).

Similar experience...
Finally, I set 35% and about 2880rpm, (with 70% no change  almost full speed...)

I've updated my miners and since then they've been constantly blinking red lights but they are hashing perfectly.

beeeeeep beeeeeep beeeeeep beeeeeep beeeeeep  on 4 s5's with the latest firmware.
I also rolled back.... very much disappointed in such a crappy firmware.
This time its just a beep, what if it had wrecked the miner?
Their super support team would just blame it on the user like always.

Check the FAN connector.

Fan  MUST BE in FAN1 position.

If you see readings Fan1 0 ,   Fan2 some number, the software is not working.

I have one miner with cgminer 4.9.0 - it hashes noticeably slower than the others with 4.8.0 at the same clock.

 Newer is NOT always better.
