The BitSeeds project began in 2014 as a plan and then launched as a coin network in April of 2015. The BitSeeds project is the first official cryptocurrency of a major international charity, the Rainforest Foundation, the environmental charity co-founded by Sting in the 1980s: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainforest_Foundation_US#History

The Rainforest Foundation has committed to using BitSeeds as an important funding source going forward, and now that we've relaunched with our new codebase we can move ahead with several major milestones planned for 2016 including spendable BitSeeds gift cards and our payment processor Coin.co coming online this summer.

Our original developer attempted to sabotage the project and abandoned it with broken mining and the network left running on POS only. We've now successfully relaunched with entirely new codebase and transitioned our existing users to the new chain. We've been testing mining successfully for about a week and a half now, deliberately starting with 1 week of zero block rewards before opening up to everyone with a second week with limited rewards of just 0.025 XSEED per block.

This give us plenty of time to test and to get the word out so people could point their SHA rigs at a BitSeeds pool and not be left out by a sneaky relaunch with initial high block rewards nobody gets a chance to mine.

As I write this, we're on block 3470 with almost exactly 2 days left before we go back to full 10 XSEED block rewards with block 4035. You can start mining anytime you'd like on our existing (wmikrut.com) pool listed above, and we welcome any pool owners who'd like to add us to do so and help support a good cause and a strong network.

Take a look at the post below for links to the complete wallet video course - these easy lessons teach even non-technical users how to use the BitSeeds wallet app and is designed as a great basic intro to new users of cryptocurrency as we begin heading into widespread adoption of blockchain-based currencies.

From the Rainforest Foundation, founding member of the BitSeeds Foundation:
“Immediately slowing or stopping the alarming rate of rainforest destruction is vital to society’s health and well-being. So we asked ourselves: how can we leverage more resources to support what we know are effective solutions? The scale of funding needed to halt or reverse rainforest destruction is so large that we can't just do what we've always done to raise funds. We need innovation. We need disruption.”
-Suzanne Pelletier, Executive Director of Rainforest Foundation US and founding member of the BitSeeds Foundation

Well, I don't have that much hash, but I'll certainly give it a try. Seems like you guys have something going here...

**10 seconds to sync... nice

**2nd edit** So, been mining for about 45 mins. now, but no reward showing up in wallet or in pool stats... am I doing something wrong?

**OK, looks like I will be switching back to BTC until I can figure out why after 2.5 hrs of minning at ~1TH/s I still have 0 rewards showing on both wallet and pool stats page... my address is the only one on pool stats page that has no rewards, and is only one with invalid shares(over 6000 of them at time of writing). If anyone here can help me get it going correctly, please shoot me a message so I can point my miner back to this coin. Thanks. I am mining with an ANT S2, if that helps...I'm no expert on mining, more like a little old man with a pick-axe than a geologist with excavation equipment  Tongue**

Hi. Didn't see your updated post until just now since I don't get notifications of modified posts, only new ones.

Which pool are you using? The wmikrut pool seems like it's not paying out properly, I've contacted the pool owner about it and am waiting to hear back.  Maxminers has been working very smoothly, however.  Try that pool if you haven't, and you can also send me info on how your miner is set so I can take a look at it if you'd like.

Maxminers.net entire site (all pools) has been going down off and on since last night sometime; I'm not sure what's going on with them but hopefully they'll have their pools back up and running soon.  Unfortunately the wmikrut.com pool will be going offline temporarily while Bill rebuilds the pool to troubleshoot a problem.  That pool hasn't been sending out payouts automatically so he's going to send them all out manually, so don't worry if you haven't received any mining proceeds from that pool yet.

Maxminers has been sending payments regularly, which I'm sure will continue once they've resolved their site load issues. Anyway, I think Bill is on the east coast and it's pretty late there so he may leave the pool up until morning before rebuilding it, but I don't think the process takes too long so the downtime should be short when he does it.

Thanks, I was using wmikrut. I'll set up on the other pool later on, and see how things go.

Maxminers still seems to be having problems with their website (sort of looks like they may be under a DDoS), but mining is working fine for me - just checked and we've been getting regular payouts with the most recent being about six minutes ago as I type this.

Bill (wmikrut) has taken his XSEED pool down for the time being while he figures out the problem he's been having with payouts. Any BitSeeds you are owed by his pool he's going to send out manually.

Quick update to the above, Maxminers has been working great for weeks now with regular payouts and no issues. We also have gotten another pool

http://pool.cryptoally.net/

offered by Cryptoally which has been added to the OP along with a Iquidus based explorer they donated which includes a rich list.

We've got our own Iquidus explorer set up but I haven't posted it yet since I've been busy and haven't had a chance to go in and customize it yet. There's a way to add labels to the different wallet addresses and I want to ID all of the project wallets for transparency purposes.

Speaking of transparency, a disclosure: as has been mentioned before, we've been renting mining equipment through MiningRigRentals and mining BitSeeds since the relaunch.

Since we're not doing this for profit, but just to maintain the network we're donating a large percentage to the pool owner and we've also been selling some of the mined BitSeeds on the market to increase liquidity and to put the resulting funds right back into renting mining equipment. We've been deliberately renting the least powerful miner we can each time to avoid driving up the difficulty.

This seemed to make more sense than holding onto the resulting XSEED yet to make the mining as self-perpetuating as possible just to keep the network running smoothly for everyone.  We welcome any feedback about this, but it seemed like the logical approach.
