The French-born Karpeles, 30, is suspected of falsifying data on the outstanding balance of the exchange, at one point the world's largest hub for trading the digital currency, Japanese media reports added.
The Japanese news website nikkei.com quoted officials from the Tokyo metropolitan police saying that Karpeles allegedly manipulated the exchange computer system to inflate its assets. After Nikkei reported on Friday that he was going to be arrested, Karpeles told the Wall Street Journal that the allegations were "false" and he would "of course deny" them. His lawyer was not avaiulable for comment, the WSJ said. >>
