I started mining with a butterfly labs monarch using bfgminer and average about 750GH/s which is a decent speed.
Now I recently got a Radeon R9 295X2 graphics card for my desktop which I think is the same card the Monarch is made from however I get no where close to the speed of the monarch.
I've tried a few configurations as suggested in the GPU.README that comes with bfgminer such as single pool, regular desktop command and the single pool, dedicated miner command but I'm only getting a little over 1GH/s I didn't expect it to be as fast as the monarch but I certainly expected to get more then 1GH/s from this card. Am I doing something wrong?

No and yes

The no is you are correctly running the gpu.

The yes is  a gpu has a different chip then the monarch.

the gpu chip does video great and mines slow.

the monarch chip does only mining really fast 750x the gpu chip but does 0 for video

So 1GH/s is the highest speed to expect from my 295x2? Well that's disappointing to hear and ridiculously low, but thanks for the info.

yes about 1gh .  as a suggestion  go to alt coin forum and ask what to mine with your card. I think dark coin was good but I stopped all alt coins so I do not know.

Yup... GPU mining of BTC is long since dead.  One little Antminer U2 USB stick will do about double the hash of those two Radeons, and use a hell of a lot less power.  One of sidehack's new USB sticks (based on the BM1384 chip) will do about 15 times the rate.

As Phil said, take a look at some alt coins.  Heck, you could even setup your rig on MRR and let people rent it out.

Jonny's Pool - Mine with us and help us grow!  Support a pool that supports Bitcoin, not a hardware manufacturer's pockets!  No SPV cheats.  No empty blocks.

it will not be profitable even with altcoin, that gpu is obsolete now, nvidia is dominating unless you have the last wolfo build and his own private miner, maybe he released it to the public for free i don't remember exactly

the point with gpu and asic with altcoin, was to mine only the firts block and never to stay there mining 24/7, which was a waste evn in the good old days

it's better if you can sell it, if you do not need the gpu for mining, and buy a 980 form nvidia

Mine an X11 coin.....

NO GPU or CPU stands a chance against Asic's.. SHA-256 and Srypt are ASIC only at this point.
