It very much depends on what country you're in. You need to provide that information, for us to help you. You mentioned in your poll that you've tried various methods. Which did you try? What trouble did you have with them?

Circle.com offers purchases of bitcoin by credit card. I'm not sure what countries they work in.

I have recently become active again after a long period of inactivity. Cryptographic proof that my account has not been compromised is available.

You can go with localbitcoins.com if you're looking to make a deal with a seller near you. A meet ups is also possible with that site. If you have perfect money, OKPay Payeer or even thinking of a bank wire transfer, you can go with xmlgold.eu or ecoin.eu.

Look first for a bitcoin service or exchange from and based on your country, if you can't find any, go for localbitcoins.com

I'm surprised the mods haven't stickied a thread for this yet, this newbie question that gets asked quite often.
Anyways, to answer op, I've bought BTC a few different places and I've found Circle.com to be the easiest and fastest way. All you need is a debit or credit card (if I'm not mistaken they're accepting prepaid cards as well now) and you can have an account up and running is less than 10 minutes. The buying itself is instantaneous and you can withdraw your BTC immediately.
If you want to buy with PayPal or Skrill then there is only 1 site I can recommend, Virwox.com ( I used it extensively in my early Bitcoin days and it's as safe as it gets).
Welcome to the forum and good luck !  Smiley

Many of the exchanges are starting to take cards too, I forgot exactly which ones but a quick google search like "buy bitcoin with credit card"should turn up plenty of results.  I will warn youthough, that the fees they charge for cc purchases tend to be really high.  You would maybe be better off with ach at coinbase (even though they screw you with a 1% fee for this, but their normal trading fees are less).  There are also exchanges that offer similar service in Europe.  CC is difficult because of the possibility of chargebacks, this is why it is not widely accepted and why the fees are really high.

Are the only options prepaid or debit? Make a thread over in the currency exchange section and I'm sure you'll be able to buy some with a pre paid card. You could also look on localbitcoins.com and try find someone locally who will sell for cash.

contact someone here on the forum, and use escrow or contact directly an escrow so you're safe, otherwise the easy way would be an exchange that do not require ID like kraken, which contrary to the popular belief send money to usa to and not only eu....

If you got an exchanger which accepted your local bank, you can use it for purchase. Or through LocalBitcoin or find a person in this forum, but if you need to buy more, my advice is buy through exchanger.

virwox.com

High fees.
