Quite good: “There Never Was a Real Tulip Fever” - https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/there-never-was-real-tulip-fever-180964915/?no-istreferencing the (even better) 1989 paper “Tulipmania” by Peter Garber in The Journal of Political Economy, which, I'm slightly ashamed to admit, I found a fascinating read in a modern context ... Flood and Garber (1980), Hamilton and Whiteman (1985), and Hamilton (1986) have demonstrated the impossibility of distinguishing empirically between hypotheses that asset price dynamics are driven by a rational speculative bubble and that researchers have not adequately measured the future market fundamentals anticipated by market participants.
and then there's the distressingly familiar ... Since already valuable bulbs rose by no more than 200-300 percent over a longer duration, the increase and collapse of the relative price of common bulbs are the remarkable feature of this phase of the speculation. Even if detailed, day-to-day information about market events for this period were available, we would be hard-pressed to find a market fundamental explanation for these relative price movements. It is clear that the colleges generated these prices, although they are echoed in some written contracts. As noted earlier, the college futures markets suffered from a lack of internal control over the nature of contracts, which might have encouraged a speculation of this sort. These markets consisted of a collection of people without net worth making ever-increasing numbers of "million-dollar bets" with each other with some knowledge that the state would not enforce the contracts.

Graham - I have one really important question - do you want to build-in Slimcoin client some simple website creator, for the decentralized publishing system in web2web? If, so can we also build some ecosystem or infrastructure around Slimcoin blockchain (maybe on other blockchains too, but I'm curious, if that's possible?). Maybe not an ecosystem, but I thought about decentralized marketplace? Where from Slimcoin client you could enter, with simple list of categories, and products into marketplace? It would be static, when somebody buys product (of course in SLM), they have address/QR image to deposit, escrow-like? I don't know how about escrow, but would it be so hard to implement?
Maybe, I'm just too demanding, but it would be something quite new, to world (apart from already in place openbaazar).

Offhand, I don't know of any decentralised marketplace solutions pertinent to Slimcoin. Cheers Graham |

Good, less shitcoins, more good coins - it should benefit them.
They have 300+, so it's a big list still.
I hope that overhaul of website will, benefit them, with more trading activity.

Yeah, maybe it's bad I should spell it, as "suggestions".
And centralized exchange is hard/very hard, but it's possible to execute, as far as I see. Maybe even decentralized (but it's even more difficult to have it in nice package).

Some people are mentioning, that they would like to have a pool. I've seen there is a code to compile pool, someone test it, that it works?
I tried to get https://github.com/kryptoslab/node-open-mining-portal up and running and couldn't build node-multi-hashing (one of nomp's dependencies) on any version of node other than 0.10. so, I doubt if it can be used in production. I got a bit further using a contemporary-to-nodejs-0.10 linux distro (Ubuntu 15.10 uses nodejs 0.10.29), and specifying an appropriate “0.10.0” version limitation for bignum (instead of the dubious “*”) and managed to run npm update successfully in all three node-* repos (the bignum code incorrectly thinks the executable is called node (instead of the correct nodejs) when it tries to load nan - which I discovered by cloning the node-bignum repos and trying to npm install from that). However, trying to start the pool resulted in a raft of error statements, so I ended my exploration at that point. Cheers Graham |
