this is silly.  now you're just assuming that everyone in the world uses facebook.  also i think no one will join your group to estimate the number of facebook users that are aware of what bitcoin is.

News of today: half internet population is on FB.

Look, I am a bitcoiner, but sorry, I would never join your group. Why you might ask?
Well all that NSA needs to do is check this group and would have a very nice list of Bitcoin users with their complete personal info! Too easy for them if you are asking me.
I like this answer. I have to add that I met many bitcoin users and among them are only few facebook users. This social network is highly disregarded in bitcoin community.
Bitcoin folks treasure anonymous approach of cryptocurrencies and freedom, facebook is a tool of invigilation and database for NSA. Giving them our IDs just like that would be bad idea.
Personally I don't use Facebook and I never will. You are a product if you are using facebook not an user.

Well... I would say that thinking NSA doesn't know if you use Bitcoin or not when you don't subscribe to FB and say this clearly is quite naive.

Echelon is not only tracing all communications of internet, but examining also voice calls and all text.

Now, imagine that you, from your cool pc, open up the Bitcoin wallet... VOILA' NSA knows  that at n.XX, Clever Street, Pasadena, where Genius Guy lives, somebody just connected to a Bitcoin node Cheesy you don't even need to make a transaction Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

How can you estimate the number of bitcoin users via Facebook? There are so many people who have over 1000 FB accounts and the count cannot be considered a valid one. Even polls and surveys are manipulated due to multiple entries by single users.

Each and every method will not give an exact number.
It's just a try.

Just see the number of accounts here at bitcointalk if you want an estimate of Bitcoin users. It's probably pretty close to the number of actual users.
Of course most only have a fraction of a bitcoin

when it comes to facebook.. alot of the non fiat lovers/libertarians. etc do not use facebook
when it comes to bitcoin. alot of large investors dont want to link their personal info to outsiders. to prevent unwanted stalking/scamming/publicity
when it comes to facebook groups. man bitcoiners are too busy making businesses or investing to even want/have tme to be in a group.
when it comes to international populations, many people of other languages steer clear of english groups and stick to groups based in their own nationality

so i think that this method of trying to count users wont have very accurate results.

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

Facebook group just to estimate number of Bitcoin users is not the best idea, since people won't be interested in such purely statistical thing.
The best way to monitor growth of bitcoin users imho is by observing the number of wallets instead; even tho it's not accurate, it gets you the base idea on
just how much trend bitcoin community is having.

cheers

FB may not be the best choice, but wallets are surely worse, I explained before why.
On pc I downloaded and installed at least 5 different wallets.
As webwallets, I registered in many, maybe 10 or 15, just to see the interface and services offered.
On my smartphone I tried 5 wallets.
So it's easy to see that a single user can have have so many wallets.

Number of users in this forum? Not good anyway.
Lot of people don't like forums at all, they may use Bitcoin but not register here.
Users of this forum are an underestimation of actual userbase.

On the other side, there's plenty people that just live and see Bitcoin just a good method of payment to remain anonymous.
All this mania you get to not show that you use Bitcoin... if find it ridiculous.
NSA will know you use Bitcoin the moment you open your wallet on your pc and connect to the net.

And I'm tired of this dispute about the initiative.
Who wants to join, welcome.
The others, you will be out of the group! Cheesy

Your best bet, is to ask exchanges adhering to the KYC/AML regulations to post their totals on the forum. Duplication and sock puppets are then eliminated and you would get some clear totals of Bitcoin users per country. I have seen some totals being quoted within articles, but I do not know how accurate and updated they are.

I have 5 Facebook accounts, and I will join with 3 of them, just to inflate your totals a bit, how does that sound?

This is my biggest fear with something like this. People can intentionally mess up the stats. And I can imagine some people don't want to link their real identity to bitcoin yet.

Seems like you don't want to understand.
This forum users do not represent ALL the Bitcoin users AT ALL.
And I posted earlier up why, if you are curious.

That would just look a bit stupid.
As the large majority of people just makes one FB account and is not polemic by nature Wink

For one like him, we probably have 3 that won't join in fear of privacy.
