I think a combination of mining and buying is a good way to go. Prices drop you buy(if you can take the risk) and if prices spike you'll be happy to know you have a rig generating coins.

I was speaking to my friends about investing about 2 days ago when the price was around $10, we were only going to invest about $100 but we didn't think it would have been a good idea. 2 Days later the price is up $4. I can't believe it. I might just buy a couple of bitcoins and hold on to them while I get my mining rig sort out.

Also can anyone comment on this build?
Asus M3A Mobo
Phenom 9500 X4
1x 5830

I can easily get all this for under $300 and it seems like a great deal to me. Just as a solid starting out rig, then while I gather up more money I'll buy some more cards and plop them on, hope fully some a 5870 or so.
