Liverpool set for Nike kit deal as club wins High Court trial against New Balance

Judge reaches decision after Liverpool and New Balance contest kit deal trial with offer from Nike on the table

Liverpool FC have fought off a legal challenge from New Balance over its kit deal and can now sign a deal with Nike.

The club had been desperate to end its seven-year partnership with the Boston based firm and sign a new deal.


New Balance, rather than walk away when the existing deal ends in May, had filed a claim in the High Court claiming it had activated a matching clause in the contract meaning Liverpool had to renew their partnership.

Liverpool, however, successfully convinced judge Mr Justice Nigel Teare that New Balance could not "match" the terms on offer from Nike.

A full written statement from the judge will follow, but he told the court today: “For the reasons given in the judgement handed down the claim from New Balance is dismissed.“

Liverpool are now set to press ahead with the five-year deal already agreed in principle with Nike - who have already spent close to £6million on kit design.

A spokesman for Liverpool said after the case was decided: "Liverpool FC is pleased with the Judge's decision to rule in favour of the Club following the legal dispute with our current kit supplier, New Balance.

"We will continue with New Balance for the current season, in combination with preparing next season's Liverpool kits with our new supplier."

It was believed that New Balance would be likely to appeal, but the judge dismissed permission.

Mr Justice Teare said: "I am not persuaded there is a real prospect of success.”

We will become even more dominant with Nike in charge. They will sell our merchandise in Asia & Africa, two huge continents than our previous kit maker New Balance barely touched. Nike also usually help pay for really top players who are sponsored by Nike.

Still there is possibility the match result is draw and if this happen and City win against Aston Villa the points difference will decrease.

Oh Man, Opportunities for the series are very low. Not that it will not happen, but because Liverpool already get a draw when against Manchester United. So it's hard, Tottenham can hold liverpool draw.

For Man City, I think they are certain to win.

I keep saying this on this thread, most times when the big teams face off, form doesn't come into play, just take a look at Manchester United Vs Liverpool game, so many predicted an easy win for Liverpool, but I predicted a draw and I was spot on, I understand that when two big teams play, they tend to pay more attention to defense than attack, this always leads to a tight match.

Liverpool Vs spurs would be a tough game and no one knows who would win, spurs are struggling for form, but remember they smashed five past their opponent in midweek in the champions league.

I understand it was an upset as Liverpool was performing at high levels prior to that match. But the red devils were fighting at home. Add also their long historic rivalry and it awakened their intensity into that game. My prediction is Liverpool to win this time at home against Tottenham.

Based on the last liverpool EPL match against manchester united where 90% people around the world believe/ overconfident backing them to win over united easily ... but the result says liverpool were struggling even nearly get their first lost of the season, thanks to lallana saving liverpool's ass.

It could be de javu against Tottenham this sunday, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min has warmed up by scoring two goals each on Wednesday champions league match against crvena zvezda, I wish they can do the same in liverpool match so the points gap a bit reduced to make the league more competitive.

Draw or Tottenham seems realistic though, more extreme bet... liverpool win at first half and tottenham comeback to win at the full time .

Spurs' performance cannot be doubted even though Liverpool haven't lost this season, and maybe Tottenham will beat him, it's hard to predict what the right score is for this match, but I believe it ends in 1-1.

Liverpool are on a 6 win streak at home while Spurs are performing drastically this season so far. On other hand Salah is likely to be back after missing out the last two matches due to injury. It is hard to say that Spurs found their form back with the win in last CL group stage round. I think betting on both teams to score would be a good option to go since Liverpool are also conceding in home games.

Its too risky to go for which side to win.

Right, bet BTTS for this match will indeed be a good choice but indeed, Liverpool has the potential to win. Liverpool have only made 2 clean sheets at EPL so far and 1 clean sheet made by Spurs, and that is the reason I am also interested in betting at BTTS. I have not checked the odds for this match and will choose the best or higher odds for Liverpool to win or both teams to score.

A whopping 5 odds were given to Tottenham, I think this match will end in either a win for Liverpool or a draw, because Liverpool will wanna keep their unbeaten run,  the last time Tottenham won at Anfield was in 2011,  that was when Harry Redknapp was coaching Spurs,  Pochetinno have not win at Anfield since he started coaching Spurs in 2014, he has won only one game against Liverpool both home and away matches

Right, bet BTTS for this match will indeed be a good choice but indeed, Liverpool has the potential to win. Liverpool have only made 2 clean sheets at EPL so far and 1 clean sheet made by Spurs, and that is the reason I am also interested in betting at BTTS. Its going around like 1.53-1.55x odd. Anyway considering the risk, it is better to go for that selection eitherway. Both teams are good on attacking.

But the Match of Manchester United vs Liverpool has history. In fact Liverpool has never won at Old Trafford for some good years now. The draw made lots of sense. It's a jinx, you can not compare it to that of Liverpool vs Tottenham.
