Is there a way to do a comparison of the "old" BitCoins versus new? For example, let's say Nakamoto mined 500k coins early on, then stopped. That would mean there's a wallet.dat file out there with 500k BTC. Is it possible to check the idleness of BitCoins? If there's a large percentage of Dark Coins out there, then is there a danger of a pump and dump?

You should be able to use the Block Explorer (http://blockexplorer.com/), or just the block chain itself, to find addresses with no recent transactions, and then total up their balances to get a sense of the number of idle Bitcoins.
