I understand the idea behind it, but can someone tell me what role the coin itself will play in this great project? why should the price increase?

Nodes can get paid for host the websites, and websites pay to host their nodes on the network. You can imagine it a bit like how Sia does.

The Phantom in testnet is planned to be released today or tomorrow. While the Phantom in mainnet will follow after some days. Beginning of the next week.

Phantom is going to be A GUI interface, with options like picking server locations, price, and much more.
You pay in Shift coins.
Phantom is going to a be dApp on a sidechain too.
Goal for Mainnet release is end of month.

Imagine I am a web developer.
I exactly understood nothing from that answer.
except maybe GUI.

Do I get templates? Can I use a merchant application for payments? Does it integrate with social media?

Or is that another layer in between? Who is the customer of SHIFT?

Edit: Also, EOS is going for ICO. Is this similar to EOS? I realize you must be ahead in development. How do you think you will get the investors behind you to outbeat EOS fuzz/buzz.? Or they will roll over this project in 1 year?

SHIFTs idea is to make decentralized webhosting possible, meaning, instead of a central server somewhere, you host your content via IPFS in a cloud of peer-to-peer users, who are rewarded in SHIFT.

I really like @ttookk's description/definition here.  The thing I'm not sure about, though, is whether that is a description of Shift Phantom or Shift.   I wonder if someone would like to clarify.

Would be better to release phantom in testnet soon, so when the bull market hits everybody knows what is to buy for the mainnet.
